People should look at IQ tests in context. Someone who grew up illiterate and malnourished is clearly disadvantaged to the middle class private school kid, and its not down to natural intellect.

However IQ is clearly a strong measure of intelligence, the data just backs it up. Find me a contributing physics/maths/etc. researcher with a low IQ - there aren't any.

psychology is a social science though. IQ falls within the subfield of psychometrics. the concept originally developed by a child development psychologist to as a test for mental retardation in children and years later other psychologists developed it further as a general measure of intelligence.
