Aluminum is the most abundant metal on earth so I'm gonna say that's a meme.

Please don't listen to anyone on this board regarding health matters.

Most of the people here are fedora wearing "skeptics" that religiously support whatever the FDA and big pharma spew out.

But yeah, aluminum is probably bad and I think there's some studies on pubmed about it causing neurological problems.

Alzheimer's is an extremely complicated disease. Amyloid plaques are implicated in its progression, and those are associated somewhat with aluminum, but that may be spurious... it could entirely be the case that certain amyloids trap aluminum, but would cause the problems that lead to Alzheimer's whether or not aluminum is present.

The trouble is that aluminum is pretty reactive in the body. That's bad if you get super heavy exposure, but it's good for any particular problem it might cause, because very low bioavailability means that each of those problems is unlikely to arise significantly.

Anyway, it is certainly not the case that everyone with Alzheimer's has detectable levels of aluminum in their brains. It might be a contributing factor for some cases, or it might not.

Here's a review looking at the evidence each way.

Bottom line: I wouldn't worry about it until there's some actual evidence. The precautionary principle is a logical fallacy.

Aluminum in amyloid plaques in alzheimer's patients is a symptom and not a cause.

You don't find trace amounts of aluminum in non-alzheimer's individuals, you find nothing. If aluminum caused it you'd see a buildup until it reached a point of causing a symptom.

You don't start accumulating aluminum until after you have alzheimer's.

The bioavailability of aluminum depends on the matrix in which it is ingested. Aluminum-containing antacids and antiperspirants, for example, have relatively high bioavailability. Water and food sources in developed countries are less of a concern.
