Look OP IQ really doesn't mean shit and if your only just scraping by don't loose hope, i got into grad programs in chem and my gpa equated to ~64%. Just talk to your professors, approach them after class with questions, talk to them about shared interests and show them your enthusiastic.

Most of them are aware that not everyone who is practically gifted and useful tests well.

I guessed luckily on that one it seems, I've taken the test a few times now at intervals of 6-7 months. That pic was from over a year ago, must have got lucky with a couple of the last questions.

Even though I am not too quick to trust IQ tests, I find it relative to how well I did tests in school but was never well acquitted to doing the classwork. I don't think classwork adds up to anything important to me other than distributing lies about actual work efficiency. You could become a lab technician or technologist instead. Only need an associates degree or bachelors for that. If you gain proficiency and experience you might be able to have more impact than just doing gruntwork. My father has co-authored several papers and he started out as a lab technologist.

Same problem with me, I looked it up and the mechanism was one I hadn't thought of, but pretty simple. Basically each symbol turns from a triangle to a cross to a circle in each of the examples. All the symbols cycle through that path, while also moving left to right and down. Symbols on the right edge move down a row and to the left edge. I won't lie to you, doing that kind of deep architectural work within your mind isn't easy. It can be very painful. You will have to give things up, and you'll probably find that you're clinging to things that don't work, get in the way, but make you feel good and secure.

People say IQ is bullshit, and they're correct. But there are hard biases and hardware limitations. You just need to learn to do with your mind what you can, and push it further and further. Your problem is probably that you're trying to learn and get better while staying roughly as who you already are.

You can't. Get metacognitive with it. Stop rushing and focusing on the external world, and do some introspection. At least then you'll know if you're better off ditching it.

IQ is pattern recognition and reasoning, 'intelligence' to most people is measured by your ability to learn about and implement complex skills.

Hate to break it to you, but tests done during childhood have basically no validity. I was tested too and got something about a SD below you (don't recall the actual numbers). Got professionally tested 4 years later and I had dropped to within one SD of the norm, and I was still a teen. I wouldn't wipe my ass with the results.

Ok guys give it to me straight. The first time I did this test I thought I'd breeze through it and score well, I'd had 3-4 drinks and it was in the middle of the night and I only scored 107/106. That scared the hell out of me so the next day I sobered up and gave it a 2nd go when fully alert.

Is your IQ really 170? My IQ is also 170. I have a near eidetic memory, a digit span of 20 meaning I can memorize pretty much any password/formula/screenplay on the spot, great visualization abilities (I can draw the human body in pretty much any angle and perspective without reference), 99.98% percentile typing speed, 2390 on the SAT without studying (800 SAT math by 8th grade), great talent in writing (won national history, creative writing and journalism contests in high school) and a 99.9% percentile performance in pretty much everything else (diamond 2 promos in LoL).

IIRC, this test is biased towards math/geometry, so of course all the engineers and physics/math people will be good at it
