Maybe this isn't really the time or place for this question, but why exactly is the letter b associated with randomness? Flash videos from before 4chan even existed are on newgrounds, or were on there at some point before being banned, all of which contained the letter "B." Sometimes these were accompanied by non sense all flash animations. Am I missing something here or am I on the right track?

The Newgrounds flashes are probably a coincidence, if you looked closer back in the day I think the letter Z was tossed around more. Obviously these days people associate randomness with /b/, and the name comes from "bunrui mi" which roughly means uncategorized/random in Moonspeak.

You might be on to something.
