I remember I always ate mostly canned vegetables growing up and I ate depression era recipes. We got a working tv when I was about 12 years old. We had a party line too.

I never saw my dad much because he worked nights and we had odd dinner hours like 9pm so we could enjoy a sit down as a family.

I mostly remember my mom being constantly depressed. She was really depressed about taxes and how much money was "stolen" from them. She sat at the table and smoked cigarettes a lot. When I look back now, it seemed they lived their lives like prisoners.

Mom & dad seldom took vacations because he had to work. Just before he was to retire he died of a massive heart attack (probably not enough sun) and she died 10 years later. When he was a kid he had to quit school and sell newspapers on the street. He never smiled in his later pictures. Her mom died when she was a baby 3 years old and she was raised without a mom in a small town with little opportunities. She went over and over the depression era stories of her life with me.

financial life was very hard on my folks when I grew up and I didn't want to ask much of them. I can remember thinking that I didn't want to cause them any troubles because they both had it so hard.

Nothing has changed that much in the world. The bad people (bankers and investors and warmongers) are still making everyone hurt for profit.

I'm convinced, and nothing can change my mind, that the more human suffering there is in this world, the more profitable it is for the Investor class. I am sure there is a graph somewhere that shows the correlation of higher earnings to higher human suffering.

Nothing can convince me this isn't so.
