If you do not have access to true ginger ale, try adding 3 parts Coca-Cola to 1 part Sprite (I'm unsure how 3:1 Sierra Mist:Pepsi or 3:1 7up:Dr Pepper would work), and you have a facsimile of ginger ale that tastes 100% like it, but is a bit darker.

I often run out of ginger ale due to the ginger ale shortages in my area, and high demand. I can't go without ginger ale for long due to the heavy withdrawals i suffer, so I'll generally take the empty ginger ale bottles and fill them with water and pretend I'm feeling the sensation of the ginger ales sting in my mouth while I drinked the water as a substituent. It's nothing like the original really, but it helps.
