Pretty certain it floats and since tsunami waters typically continue inland before they re-treat isn't it likely that you'd hit land or get stop by debris's before you could get to the ocean?
I suppose what you said "could" happen but I am not sure its the most likely outcome.
I also am not really an expert on tsunami's and how the water flows behave when they end and are in re-treat so its hard to say.
Still in an emergency situation and without much time to do anything else it might give you a significantly better chance of survival.
