Also,
human beings "in real life" are not 3D they are at least 6D, possibly even 7D or more. Specifically regarding the dimensions of spatial time, biological time, and position.
Your anime figurines and the like are closer to being a 3D woman, but really since they too are subject to being changed over time and in changing position they could be considered 5D as well. For another example, your hard drive will eventually die, subjecting your 2D women in their current form to death, arguably making them at least 3D as well, plus position on your hard drive, making 4D.
In closing on this point for the sake of concision, the preface you have set for calling the entities you refer to as "3D" is flawed from the onset regardless of what the opinion you are trying to convey with your imprecise language may be.
Rakastan pellepala!

I didn't understand any of that, but I get what you're saying. Kinda.

smarte dubs

People in real life are actually 5D. They have 3 variables for position and 2 variables for rotation. SO(3) is a 2-dimensional Lie group. Please educate yourself. A good reference is
John M. Lee - An Introduction to Smooth Manifolds (2nd edition)

>John M. Lee - An Introduction to Smooth Manifolds
From the back cover:
This book is an introductory graduate-level textbook on the theory of smooth manifolds. Its goal is to familiarize students with the tools they will need in order to use manifolds in mathematical or scientific research--- smooth structures, tangent vectors and covectors, vector bundles, immersed and embedded submanifolds, tensors, differential forms, de Rham cohomology, vector fields, flows, foliations, Lie derivatives, Lie groups, Lie algebras, and more. The approach is as concrete as possible, with pictures and intuitive discussions of how one should think geometrically about the abstract concepts, while making full use of the powerful tools that modern mathematics has to offer.
This second edition has been extensively revised and clarified, and the topics have been substantially rearranged. The book now introduces the two most important analytic tools, the rank theorem and the fundamental theorem on flows, much earlier so that they can be used throughout the book. A few new topics have been added, notably Sard’s theorem and transversality, a proof that infinitesimal Lie group actions generate global group actions, a more thorough study of first-order partial differential equations, a brief treatment of degree theory for smooth maps between compact manifolds, and an introduction to contact structures.
Prerequisites include a solid acquaintance with general topology, the fundamental group, and covering spaces, as well as basic undergraduate linear algebra and real analysis.

You don't need to read the whole book (although it's recommended for your general education), just the part where he proves that SO(3) is a smooth 2-dimensional manifold.
>>4652833
Looks like a purely mathematical point of view. I was incorporating the dimensions of time and biology as well.
>>4652839
I'll look through your book if I can find a pdf download. I'm not paying EUR 68,95.

>In mechanics and geometry, the 3D rotation group, often denoted SO(3)
Apparently there are some dissenters to your 'proven' fact.
Education is a means to refine faith. All beliefs on the facts we hold to be true are begun and sustained by faith in the idea and ended by having faith in a contradictory idea, while being sufficiently aware of the contradiction.
>>4652947
Sorry, you're right. The dimension of SO(3) is indeed 3. But not because it acts on Euclidean 3-space as you seem to imply with your quote. For example, the General linear group in 3 real dimensions also acts on Euclidean 3-space, but is in fact 9-dimensional. However, humans cannot be squished or stretched, so the symmetry group is SO(3) and not GL(2).
Because 3 is odd, the characteristic polynomial will have a real root, which can only be 1, because each operator must be both distance-preserving and orientation-preserving. Therefore, every operator in SO(3) is completely determined by a pair (x,θ), where x is an element of S2, the real 2-sphere, and θ is an element of the interval [0,2π). Because S2 is 2-dimensional and [0,2π) is 1-dimensional. SO(3) is 3-dimensional.
I forgot about the θ part, so I thank you for correcting me, albeit for the wrong reasons. Indeed, humans are 6-dimensional.
Your point about time and biology may be addressed by pointing out the fact that time is a physical entity, and biology is an applied form of chemistry, which is based on physics as well. Physics is entirely described in mathematical terms, so that would mean that every definition of dimension you can come up with can be reduced to a mathematical formula. But maybe you are thinking of a concept of dimension that you cannot define? In that case, no mathematical determination is possible.
