the week prior to christmas and new year's was pretty uneventful as it goes, but i've had a lovely holiday season other than that.
got to spend some quality time with family, i reduced the "getting absolutely hammered" part to one day out of those 2 weeks so i'm feeling good about myself as well.
i didn't have any big plans for new year's at all so i pretty much just stayed in, talked about 2016 with some friends of mine and let the new year roll in right.
how about yourself though? did you have a good christmas and new year's? any resolutions?

Well I got to make my trip in Poland, which was fine. It was a lot of socializing, I guess I got some kind of training. And some trip in a old frozen forest, it was good.
The part where I got help from old poles at 5 am who couldn't spoke a word of english was legendary.

Then I was supposed to work for my week of exams, but I'm an idiot so I did like nothing, staying alone at christmas and NY. Now I'm working but it's kind of late.

I want to be a good boy™ this year with some sports, being serious at school, this kind of stuff.

this reminded me of just recently when i was taking a train out to my dad's place and i helped 2 korean girls, had to basically explain the whole train/tram system to them using the most rudimentary english i could think of. it's charming though, there's a really nice connection to be made there.

having spent a decent amount of time living & travelling in other countries, it has been really eye-opening to realise how many words in my everyday speech are actually idiomatic or ambiguous to non-native speakers. i like to think i am pretty good at making myself understood now.

right? i think it might have taken just as much effort to simplify my speech than to build up my vocabulary to where it currently is. it just takes an encounter like that to become really aware of it. now my problem is speaking a bit too quickly.

i think it always should matter, but there comes a point of desperation where you'll just do whatever. i think that point is kinda necessary.
still i'd rather not do 2yrs of 1st level support so i can then graduate to more 1st level support (and maybe 2nd level if i'm lucky), i might just go do an apprenticeship for something totally different. i was always interested in being a mechanic too.

which reminds me, i already talked about this in a certain thread on /r9k/ but i was actually going to spend the rest of this past week house-sitting for my sister, watching her two dogs and the two cats she recently rescued.
her husband is bavarian and he really wanted to go and visit his mother's grave before new year's, he was so happy that i agreed to watch the house for a little while too, and then unfortunately it all fell flat because one of the dogs had to be operated and taken really strict care of for at least two weeks.
i feel really sad for him desu, he looked down about it before i was even asked as well.

i know how that feels, i got diagnosis for clinical depression a loooong long time ago but i like to forget about that as much as i can.
because of things like that i was NEET for a long time before so the work situation isn't impacting me horribly, but of course i know it isn't right to feel indifferent towards that. i think i touched up on what it was like for me when i was still much younger before, but it's all pretty private.

i was pretty heavily involved in the hardcore punk scene when i was younger, there was a lot of squatting going on then, but like most such things, the "movement" is kind of a cesspool and heavily romanticized. my political viewpoints changed since then too and i suppose i just grew out of that.

i do, it's just the bog standard "get in shape, smoke (even) less" kind of thing, but i take it quite seriously.
usually i wouldn't need the new year to make such plans, but i think that if there is anything to truly distinguish this year from the last, since time is so fleeting, it would be a good idea to make this a fresh start from day one.

i really wish i could help you, but all i can really do is hope that you can cure what ails you sooner rather than later.
it might sound a bit grim but there have been times before where i've resigned myself to the belief that i'll never be "happy" or even "good" to some degree and just let go of everything.
even these days sometimes i'm not too sure what i'm keeping everything together for, and if everything i'm working towards is just a farce that's meant to brand me with an identity that i might not even want. it's like a midlife crisis at 22, but i guess it makes sense thinking back to where i came from to begin with.

I went from 5' 11" 216-lbs to 145-lbs last year. I might go a bit lower to 140-lbs or so but I don't want to look like a twink. My Resolution this year is to get stronger and work on my posture. I'm not looking to get /fit/, but, just in nice shape/healthy within my limitations (have a bad back).

yeah, a bad back will definitely put the odd limitation on you in the way of deadlifts etc. that's an easy way to fuck up your back forever if you don't have perfect form. sounds very attainable though, you seem like a pretty motivated guy.

i'm gonna lose ~70lbs to get to my goal weight (probably a bit more) and try to fill a bit of that back up with muscle on my way down, so i don't end up ridiculously skinnyfat. lean would be the goal, but i'm quite tall and barrel-chested so i'll see about that when i get anywhere close.

Sounds like a good plan as very much what mine was. I'm left with just a hint of lose skin, but I got really lucky overall and it is only noticeable if I really search for it. My arms are floppy though, so going to thicken those up and try and get some better looking forearms. My chest is really wide so I'm blessed with looking V shaped even when skinnyfat.

For me the key was autistic-tier calorie counting and weighing in each day first thing (taking an average every Sunday to get my actual weight, since water weight will vary the morning number still).

oh god, tell me about it. i'm pretty sure my dad's side of the family cooked so much food that we'd eat until we exploded. 10 of us and the entire table's length was covered in all types of food, all types of cookies on the living room table etc.
a few years back i would've felt bad to only have a regular portion since i was raised to pretty much eat what i was given as a show of gratefulness, but a part of getting out of that fat mindset is simply putting yourself first in instances like that, and as i started doing that, i realized that nobody really cares and i don't actually have to stuff my face every time.
it used to put a big damper on my progress too, since i would get SUPER active in winter and then barely motivated in summer since i can't handle the heat so well.

well, it was that and the pitch being different from other speeches. it sounded more like an austrian official than himself, i didn't expect him to have any substantial sort of dialect since he mostly lived in germany anyway.
