Actually, you're both wrong. She was nothing like Lohan, for one thing, and there was hardly a need for keeping anything much under wraps since she was fairly private with her addictions. It's pretty damn autistic to think that there was a conspiracy to keep her "desperate" -- she was a millionaire many times over even before she started acting thanks to her parents, and after Star Wars she never needed to work again. She hasn't worked much because she really hasn't needed to, what with being a best-selling author several times over. That said, it also wasn't industry compassion that prevented the press from getting her story. She was just smart enough not to do dumb shit in Hollywood where everyone with a camera can see.

She was in a lot of stuff after Jedi, just nothing big and the explanation for that is simple. She's not that talented. She's OK but there have always been plenty of people in Hollywood standing in line to be famous and most of them are attractive, kind of flaky, and not particularly talented.

She scored big in a kind of movie that 9 times out of 10 actors and actresses spend years trying to live down. This one turned out to be the role of a lifetime but after that she was the friend in When Harry Met Sally or the wife in The Burbs. She was never going to become Streep or Glenn Close. Just not in that tier.
