I used Bisquick, which is a ready-made biscuit mix. It's easy to do, just pour in milk and knead a bit. Not too much, though.I used this recipe:

I would love to make biscuits from scratch, but I happened to have some bisquick on hand and there aren't really a lot of uses for it outside of biscuits.
As far as baking in general, you get some recipies and you do it repeatedly. After the first few batches you get a feel for when the dough is right, and then you just keep improving. There's a noticeable increase in quality from each batch to the next.

It's pretty simple, but it turns out very decent loaves. I think the most important part is that you let it rise, then you actually punch the dough down, flip it over, and let it rise again. I made a few bricks because I skipped the second rising.

Thanks for the info anon, I don't think they'll have that exact brand of mix here but I'll check it out. I've always wanted to bake my own bread, but I don't really have enough bench space. I shouls be able to knead the dough outside though right?

You can knead dough anywhere you've got a clean, decent sized flat surface, around a couple feet of space just to be generous. Be sure to generously flour the surface before you dump the dough there or it will stick. Outside is the perfect place to rise dough, especially if it's not too cold nor too warm.
