I use a Thinkpad T420 I got for cheap on Ebay.

Mine has an i5-2520m, 8GB ram, 900p screen, and I have a 120GB SSD and a 750GB HDD in it. I dual boot Linux and Windows 7 on it.

You can use msata SSD's underneath the hatch at the bottom, one in the usual HDD spot and one in the ultrabay.

Yes. Order one of the T### series directly from Lenovo's webstore. Customize it to b gud, DO NOT get a premade. The extended battery actually lasts 10+ hours browsing like they claim. Matte screen doesn't reflect images in light. extremely tough, have dropped mine off desks and down staircases. Has a couple dents, but works fine. Only downsides are you will have to either use a mouse, or learn to use the trackpoint. Touch pad is ass.

Mac Book Pro 13 inch from 2015. I run a Linux VM when I want to program or do some tech stuff. I connect to it a regular monitor and keyboard when I want to get work done though.
