>Go to gas station
>Say thanks when attendant/register man hands me change
>He says thanks back to me
>Realize he did it just to spite me
>He probably gets that a lot, and it's pre-thought insult
I don't like when people reach out to hurt other people.
Does anybody have stories like this?

You think he said "thanks" as an insult?

I've realized that "thanks" basically means "go away now" and it's not a nice thing to say.

I'm a cashier at a restaurant. I ways say thanks when they hand me their card, give me their money, sign the receipt, leave a tip, take their plate, etc.
It's mostly just habit.

I've been working retail for 8 years. Trust me, he thanks everyone that shows him the same courtesy. You are one of literally hundreds of customers he interacts with every shift. He does not give enough of a shit to insult you. Only if you are being rude or annoying will he ever do something like that. Trust me - we do not give a shit about you unless you are being annoying or rude.

You said it to him first. If you think thanks is an insult then stop saying it.
