The world isn't perfect but it's the absolute best we as humans have been able to make so far.

Yes there are companies who profit from slavery but there are also many who pay their employees and support charities to help those who are troubled.

And yes there are starving children in Africa but at the same time we are pulling people faster out of poverty than ever before.

Yes "Trump is bad" and "Putin is corrupt" and at the same time here we are safely talking about it and even in Russia and China many people have it better than in many other countries or even in those same countries few decades ago.

And yes we are ruining the environment but come on! We learned about that only like 100 years ago. It's not that easy to change all of the world. Cut humanity some slack.

It's an absolute miracle the human animal can even sit in a one room with others not related to him and not devour their skin like any of our relative species would do! Not to mention we can make those rooms and have water, heat and electricity all day even if it's only for few for now.

Even only few generations ago the idea that the individual has some kind of value and rights was unimaginable. And we still burned people because we thought they were magic for crying out loud -and some still do! And it is completely natural action: Even birds can have mystical thinking. It's unbelievable that we have been able to break out of it even this much.

I think the government has less control now than it has had at any point in the past century. I do not believe there is an Illuminati conspiracy to enslave us, it is happening organically.

The problem is simply money in politics. Politicians are beholden to monied special interests because 99.9% of people are either too stupid or too time poor to see past the red/blue dichotomy and see the lobbyists pulling the strings.

The government cannot regulate corporations because if it goes against them it gets thrown out of power by the people who's opinion is swayed by campaign ads.

The government cannot regulate citizens because the internet has made the nation state obsolete. You can break almost any law with impunity using the internet. You can 3d print a gun, you can buy contraband on the darknet, you can evade taxes with cryptocurrency, you can circumvent most any consumer protection regulations with an uber-style app based off shore, out of reach of a mere sovereign state.

Big brother has definitely not won, in fact we have gone so far in the opposite direction that the government cannot even convince us all of simple facts, now there are alternative facts too. Nobody trusts the government and it will be unrecognisable in 100 years.
