I hallucinate real bad so I have never slept without a nightlight
I sleep my best under bright light. My fight or flight system gets fucking jacked in the dark. I'm not sure if it's a fear, I just feel like all of my senses have been tripped to full alert. Not really like a worry type of feeling. If I wake up to complete darkness I'll be wide awake in seconds and not be able to fall back asleep.

That's not unreasonable or something to be ashamed of. That means you're aware.
Well if you think about it, since we started living and sleeping indoors, our rooms basically became pitch black at night because of all the walls. Out in nature, you have the moonlight and stars for the most part so you can still see to some degree and we usually had fire going anyway. Really humanity has slept longer with a night light than without.

Got over my fear of the dark way back in like, late middle-school/early high school, desu senpai
Mustafa Kemal was scared of the dark even when he was in his 40's and had been through many battles in the First World War.
Same OP. I am you. I also get sleep paralysis which is a freaky thing where you are basically 'awake' but still stuck in the immobility of sleep-mode. You feel as though you were being compressed/crushed down into the mattress and there's this hideous sensation of terror. I have to push myself very hard to 'snap' out of it.

I'm 36 and can't stop picking my nose, playing with boogers is just too fun
>>39616771
Its a common fear. Though its stigmatized to fear it
>>39616771
I was until I became so depressed that I didn't care if I died or not. Just sink lower and you'll be fine.
Being afraid of the dark isn't much of an issue nowadays since we have cheap and effective artificial lighting that you can use 24/7 if you really want to. Just sleep with the light on if you really want to.
>>39616771
I get that sometimes, not all the time though
I imagine something terrifying it's going to come out of the dark and get anxious as fuck, it's really annoying if i have to go to the bathroom or have a snack at night
>>39616771
cause in the dark you feel a sense of helplessness, a reminder of the nihilistic kind that lets you feel the possibility of nothing being after this life.
>>39616771
its primal instinct. we can't sense what is and isn't there at this very moment so our brains assume the worst.

>lay in bed in the dark
>bed faces the door
>sometimes get paranoid and imagine a serial killer suddenly kicking my door open
Don't have a night light either. It's even worse when you've had paranormal experiences and imagine objects flying around.
Darkness is top-tier comfy.
I take long showers in the dark, and it's the best.

i'm scared of bugs and paranormal shit. not because its likely at all but because i have no way of fighting them. pretty much fucked if a ghost attacks or my room is cowered in bugs.
>>39618157
What if you slipped in the shower?
>>39618209
Just sit down.
>>39618126
>It's even worse when you've had paranormal experiences
That is why I sleep with a light on every night.
It is hard enough without remembering that nonsense and wondering if it will come back.
>>39618204
Same. I never believed in ghosts until one showed up in my room at night and scared the shit out of me. Pretty sure my room (basement) was haunted.
>>39618242
Never got around to getting one.
>>39616826
I always sleep with tv turned on. I can't even set the auto-sleep cause the tv is old and remote control broken. My cellphone is currently broken too so can't use the remote control app.
Darkness makes me very uncomfortable if I'm alone or with an undesired person near me. I start getting intrusive thoughts such as cringe embarrassing memories or scary thoughts and it makes me feel sick.
>>39618209
>what if you slipped in the shower
It would be extremely painful.
>>39618126
fucking this
house invaders are a thousand times scarier than ghosts.
>wake up in the middle of the night, no idea what time it is
>try to go back to sleep but feel a intense wave of dread set over me
>immediately go downstairs and check the door
>its unlocked
>patrol the house for the next 30 minutes with knife after locking the door
>go back to sleep
>get woken up in the morning to police asking about break in that occurred last night down the street from my house
still gives me the chills thinking about it. first an only time i've ever even heard of a break in in my neighborhood and it happens the same night i accidentally leave my fucking door unlocked
needless to say i sleep with a gun now
If there are any monsters who live in the dark, they're probably the first people I'll ever be able to relate to.
>>39618126
>brain thinks it heard someone knock on the door at 10pm
>HAVE SOME ADRENALINE!!!!1 WAKE THE FUCK UP!!!!
Happens at least once a week, or ill be just about to fall asleep and my brain thinks it heard something and boom, im more awake then i have been in years.
