Honestly this is a good idea if executed in the right way. If you try to do a serious "e-harmony for friends" that will come across as gay and sad. If you do more tongue and cheek, kinda like Tindr, it can be a good fun app.

Users should select their gender, they could choose a few interests, a few comedians, maybe some shows they find funny, and then start a chat. Make it a group chat so it isn't intimate and you will run less of a risk of people trying to get laid.

Should work fine, you won't actually do this though OP, I know you won't. If you could do this you wouldn't be posting about it, you would be working on it.

There's already hundreds of apps for making friends, that isn't some new idea. The problem is that those apps just turn into dating apps.

The guys don't go there to make friends, they just want pussy. The girls go there to make friends, but also to date. If you make it so guys only talk to guys, then you'll see it turn into grindr within months.
People don't need apps to make friends, which is why those friend making apps either get abandoned or turn into dating apps.
