Mathematics

Don't really have a clue where am going or what I'm going to do, so I'm totally up on hopping on that CS major train for a job or majoring in Economics for some comfy position there. Doing research in Mathematics would be my dream as far as a satisfying, purpose-giving, positive contribution to humanity job is concerned. Only problem with that is that I'm not Terry Tao or Euler and I'm not crazy about becoming a high school teacher so kinda /fucked/
>>
>>39589906
You should go for a specific profession related to Mathematics. I'm planning to become an actuary, which is heavily statistics-based. If fact most of the better math related careers seem to involve statistics.
>>
>>39590007
I've actually heavily considered majoring in actuarial studies for that amazing salary. The reason I'm majoring in the general Mathematics catagory is that I don't know what field I would like to seriously study / do research in and even if I did I don't know how to go about majoring in something that would revolve around a specific field, say, number theory or complex analysis.

TL;DR I didn't do any research into how to go about becoming a Mathematician prior to majoring in Mathematics.
>>
>>39590080
You've still got time. I was planning on majoring in chemistry up until last semester, and I'm currently a junior.
The main reason I switched was because I was losing interest in chemistry, and I had no idea what specific field of chemistry I was planning on going into. I ended up choosing Actuarial Science because the profession is low-stress supposedly, and math is my strongest/easiest subject.

computer engineering, which is actually under electrical engineering.

I got lost the beginning of my Sophomore year and assumed it'd be the best path.
>I love reading, I'm great with people/kids, I could always get doctorate and be a professor
I can be social when needed, but it takes the absolute fuck out of me. Any days off and weekends are spent in full isolation, browsing 4chan. I think I'll be a decent teacher, but this is my senior year, and all I'm doing is interning, and it's really taking it out of me.
>Anything that makes more money, really
I feel like I didn't take college as seriously as I could have. If I actively tried, I could be any number of interesting things that make decent money. The only way I'll make ANY money is if I travel to a city where teacher pay is high, and live like a homeless person for a while, since cost of living will undoubtedly be very high as well. I'm thinking Boston? Maybe somewhere in the New England region? Regardless, this semester has barely started and I'm already being worn thin.

Literature.
I like writing and learning about literary theory or criticism will help me hone my talents.
Something more practical and easier to get a job with, as I don't have a long-term plan, I just followed my dreams. Everything I've learned so far I could have probably taught myself but the same goes for literally any other subject with enough patience, so that's not an argument. >>39593851
If you attempt to tell this to a recruiter they will sway you this way and that. The famous line is, "For every pilot there is one hundred crew behind him," and as a result you are far, far better off taking out student loans to pay for flight school and going commercial.
>>
>>39593887
You'll start with a different recruiter and then enlist through MEPS, the Military Enlistment Process. While you can select your job with your recruiter through the Army, you can't with any other branch. Your job is selected the day of at MEPS depending on what's available, and it's a forced selection, you simply must.

Flawless ASVAB.
>>
>>39593927
Not entirely true. Navy gives you some selection as well based on how you do on your ASVAB, and your recruiter tells you what you qualify for based on your score. They also get a bonus for what type of person they sign on, hence the rabid pressure to get people for nuke program. They almost got me that way until a recruiter other than mine set me straight. Your recruiter will lie for you, and they are your only friend in the beginning, but they will also lie TO you.

>>39593887
Yes, it does vary.
If you're looking at navy or air force to fly, ask yourself:
would you rather fly a helo or a fixed-wing cargo plane?
navy and af have similar amounts of pilot selection rates, but many of the AF pilot selects go to cargo or utility aircraft, whereas navy does a lot of helicopters.

Book of Disquiet, Notes from Underground, The Stranger and Of Mice and Men. Fairly popular picks, nothing too obscure I'm afraid. I'm a fan of depressing and existentialist lit, as would be expected from a robot.
Definitely the early 1900s back when modernism was at its peak and a lot of my favorite intellectuals were alive. It contains about 80% of my favorite works. The world wars served as inspiration for many great authors. Postmodernism just isn't the same, it's too afraid to be serious about itself.

No not really. I'm only in school to keep my mind occupied. There isn't a job out there that doesn't seem like utter misery, and to be quite honest I don't really like college. I'm only in school because when I'm a NEET I start losing my sanity

I don't really care what I do I just wanna make a decent amount of money. I don't care if it's not even related to political shit or the public sector at all. If all else fails I'll probably try and work for my dad.

I'm a bit conservative. Smaller federal government, states' rights, constitutionalism, etc.

Education, planning to be a music teacher, mainly cause I like music and I have an extreme tolerance for children. I'd probably be happier as a full-on musician/singer, but I'm not confident enough in my abilities, and a voice range of F2-F4 won't get me very far in a world of singing mice

If I end up getting more money and confidence one day, I might try to study some spiritual stuff, maybe try my hand at bringing optimism to this depressed world

Don't know if it counts as a major but I'm studying law.
I have my undergrad majoring in history.

>Why?
Cause I'm good at it, and it gives me access to a specialised profession. Not only this, but a lot of places will hire people with law degrees due to the skill set it gives you.

Next question isn't applicable, I'm happy.

>Why do you think you're holding yourself back from physics or mathematics? There's always a chance.

I took a full year's worth of introductory physics and lab just over a decade ago when I was in high school. I don't know if my university will allow me to retake it because I already have the credit. I feel like I'd be too rusty to take the next level classes. I also got an F in a Nanoscience class I took my freshman year my first attempt at college in 2008/2009. I was at Kenyon College. As for Calculus, I have the first semester down from AB Calculus in high school (I got a 4). Similar story to Physics. I got a D when I attempted Calc II at Kenyon. I came down with schizophrenia my freshman year, dropped out, and some physics and math concepts bled into delusions. I would also have hallucinations of some of my profs when I came home. I attempted to study at University of Cincinnati non-matric for a while when I was fresh out of Kenyon still figuring out the schizophrenia thing, but that stopped fast. In Fall 2015 I decided I'd retake economics at Xavier University because that was the only thing I was good at during my semester at Kenyon. After doing the introductory, I got recommended to the department for the major by the prof and matriculated which involved actually submitting my academic transcripts to Xavier. I'm not clear how I got to take classes before I applied and submitted transcripts to be honest. It probably had to do with a previous brief stint as a visiting student. A lot of the reason I'm not doing math or physics is fear, uncertainty, and not wanting to start over.

I have volunteered but not politically. I won't go into specifics for your datamining but my parents have both been elected to local offices before.
>>
>>39594609
Yeah I always planned on it. There aren't many jobs that go with history other than teaching, which is not for me.

I have a few idea. I work for the public service now, so I can get a graduate position in policy advice or administrative review. I could just go work in a law firm or legal department somewhere. Or I could work in some other government area (intelligence agencies love law degrees). Or I could just be a policy wonk for some politician and draft legislation.

I'm doing a 2 year "computer programming" program (associates degree/diploma) at a community college. Basically my marks weren't good enough to get into any computer science degree program at a university near me without having to leave my mommy and daddy and putting myself $60k in debt. Am I fucked?

was p settled on english because I intend to write for a living in one way or another, but recently chatted with a couple representatives of the communications club and they sold it really well and the girl was cute and I'm probably just going to be the same kind of aimless either way once I graduate. I'm turning 24 in two months and I'm year and a half from a bachelors, I ain't got the time for a fucking masters. No, they are poor. Not bragging, but i used to get perfect scores often in study so they feel like its a waste for me to pursue career thats not up to my standard. I dont feel like that though. So because of them, i studied hard to get scholarship to study mech engineering abroad (because i dont know what course i can handle) Then i hate it very much and my brain doesnt work well anymore due to depression and stuff i pretty much regretted it.

I'm going for Human Resources, but I kinda wanna major in fashion. I'd love to design clothes and stuff.
