thats odd. when id go to schizo support groups literally everyone that came would be a smoker. i can count on one hand the schizos ive met that didnt smoke or vape.

I just hear voices that talk to me that no one else hears. that's it for me. I'm pretty stealthy about it as it's not apparent. there should be no problems as long as I'm on my meds..

Intredasting. I got diagnosed with schizotypal a few years back.
Whenever I'm in a crowd or whatnot, I just hear all the sound as this sort of undifferentiated mass. The only other person I've met with that was my dad.

Every 2-5 years, I start having high amounts of delusions and auditory/visual hallucinations for a few months. At it's worst, it's an every day talking to "spirits" that don't exist and paranoid delusions. It comes on from stress and me sort of "allowing it" to happen though. So between breakdowns, I just have odd social stuff and seeing things "breath" once or twice a week.

Can schizotypal cause hallucinations? I went to the Doctor with persistent visual hallucinations but got diagnosed with "mixed personality disorder with primarily antisocial features", and was further advised that I had clinically significant schizoid and schizotypal features. It just seems strange that what I was diagnosed with doesn't really have much to do with hallucinations. They're incredibly vivid too. Just a few days ago, I caught my own gaze in the mirror and got fixed in place, I couldn't move. Saw my mouth disappear and my skin turn a pale grey/green colour, like I was dead. I was pretty scared but couldn't move. It felt like the thing I was looking at in the mirror wasn't even me, but a monster right in front of me.

Generally schizotypals don't have hallucinations but they're at a much, much higher risk of psychotic episodes than normies. Poorly treated schizotypal can end up turning into full on schizophrenia. Though I've heard some people think that's more "schizos who get diagnosed before their symptoms go full bore often get called schizotypal"

Schizotypal is usually more extreme when it comes to personality and social issues than outright psychoticism. Though pretty much all schizotypals have odd political beliefs, into the occult or hard into conspiracy theories.

Hmm, it's hard to say. I was pretty into the saner (as in physically possible) side of conspiracy theories when I was younger, nowadays I'm very politically moderate. Sometimes my mannerisms are a bit unusual, I have a large vocabulary and occasionally use neologisms, but nothing too far out of the ordinary. I don't actually have any problem socialising, I just prefer to be on my own. Also when I hallucinate, I'm aware it's not reality, it's just rather frightening or interesting because of how vivid it is. Had my brain scanned too, turned up nothing. Sorry for the blogpost but as I'm sure you can imagine it's quite frustrating not knowing what's wrong with you.

Ah, nah. I get it. I wasn't diagnosed till 26 so it was real frustrating. I was always aware on some level that my hallucinations weren't real but the issue was when I'd "allow myself to believe in them" through delusional thinking. It's been a long time since I had anything serious though since I learned how to symptom manage and avoid delusional thinking.

My experience is that unusual and disorganized thinking is a key part of it. Lots of schizotypals get an initial diagnosis of adhd due to concentration difficulties from incoherent thought processes. Flat affect and unusual speaking manner, odd way of dressing, are usually parts of a diagnosis. I learned to speak in a "less robotic" manner but never dressed strangely or anything.

As far as social stuff, I don't connect well with others and don't have much "drive to socialize" though I still feel loneliness unlike a lot of schizoids I've met.

Schizotypal has been one of those things that doesn't really interfere with your life and ability to function most of the time. Less debilitating than anxiety and depression desu once you get a hold of it. Except when it flares up into really bizarre and frightening symptoms out of nowhere.
