My mother and sister are of the opinion that depression is something that "happens" to you and that you have no control over it, they discard any notion that it can be controlled or at least suppressed and I find that preposterous. It's a very cancerous notion to assume that you have no agency in the way you feel about your life as this often leads you to fall even lower, because what depression stems from is usually just that - a lack of control. Take control and steer yourself in the direction you want to go, getting a good flow is always preferable to drifting.
