What made you decide to stop cutting yourself?

It hurt and didn't fix anything.

i dont get why people cut themselves. if your life is miserable why you make it worse by cutting. if you're gonna cut yourself anyway then why not be an hero instead. whats the point. im not hating btw just that i never understood it

It distracts you from whatever you are feeling at the moment, giving you a chance to calm down. It also releases endorphins which can be addicting.

I've got a friend who started cutting himself as a way to punish himself because he lost all self worth. He's been diagnosed with OCD and all the obsessive negative thoughts are having a huge impact
now he's in a psych ward but since it's his second time there he doesn't have any hope of getting better and isn't open to trying anything to get better
He's on antidepressants but that alone isn't going to fix anything. Is there anything that can be said to him to change his perspective so he doesn't want to punish himself any more?
