i was too much of a pussy to dress up like emo kids. All I had was the fringe over one eye and I generally wore dark clothing. And I was skinny and deathly pale. As I grow older I realize that it was much better this way. Growing a social circle out of people who act like this could have instilled an effeminacy in me that would have been much harder to purge from my personality. But then again I wouldn't have been so lonely. It's a hard trade off but I'm glad I wasn't friends with them. It meant that I would have to continue my journey to healing and self understanding. I would ultimately have been hindered by freely embracing emo in my teens.

I kind of get this.

When I was in high school I hung out with the skater kids. After high school I was alone in a new city and not in college. I would get very nostalgic for the idealistic times of youth and all of it's new and exciting adventures. My first love with with an emo-esque girl and my best friend was a skater. We were extremely close and did all sorts of stupid shit, ranging from pranking to trying to figure out girls.

However, in retrospect, they weren't that different from anyone else in the school. Different cloths, different music and a mildly different perspective on life, but still human none the less. Eventually we all went our own ways after high school.

Some are getting married, others have long-term girlfriends, some went to jail. And I'm sitting here on r9k.

My middle and high school days where on the first half of 2000s, there weren't EMOs or Scenes yet where I live, maybe some goths and a lot of nu metal. I admit that I listened to nu metal for a while, then I got nostalgic and started listening to grunge and other stuff from the 90's. I never really followed a trend or labeled myself as something or from a urban tribe or social clique. My classmates were all normies. It was a peaceful, yet extremely boring time for me, for the most part.
