See, I don't think you can say god (a god, not necessarily the Judeo-Christian-Muslim god) doesn't exist. There has to be something. The only way to say people don naturally believe in something is to raise a group of children without any outside interference and good luck with that.

Nature and it's forces (the forces of the universe) are likely what has traditionally been called god. Thunder gods, water gods, etc.
However, since these things have human or other manifestations, they likely have some other origin as well. I believe aliens are the cause of most pagan religions. Monotheism was a ploy by aliens to cover their tracts.
