Pushups don't hit delts that good.
You have to do overhead pressing for that or atleast some sort of incline.
That's what I've learned anyway.

OP, I want to you start with 10 pushups, squats and crunches. Every day for two or three months, do that and add a rep to it until you reach 50 or so. Then start going to the gym.
