Give me ONE good reason you aren't playing guitar or any other instrument right now.
>>
I'm not playing right now because I'm lurking here, but I have a keyboard
>>

Hard as fuck. I have a qt pac112 and i cant even play the most easier songs. I don't want to practice 12 years! I just want to play some cool metal solos.
>>
>>39331018
You have to take it easy man everyone sucks at the beginning but it won't take you 12 years.

Every instrument is hard at first.
This goes everything in life.
Jobs are hard at first, when you're a kid and you play a video game for the first time it was hard.
The more you practice correctly the better you get.
Take it slow and practice easy fundamentals. Do this for around 30 mins and then work on any other song you want.
But make sure you work fundamentals and then progressively get harder.
Starting off on the hardest song you know is bad and will make you feel bad.
You can do it anyone can.
>>
>>39330977

I was ok with the trumpet and was actually improving when one day my music teacher came up to me during practice and told me i was terrible and should consider a different elective.
Needless to say, i went back to Art class after that.

I have a guitar I'm okay at but I really want to play bass. I told myself if I get all As this semester I'll buy myself a bass.

>>
I'm a baritone singer and have won some legit $$$ at various competitions and the like. Does that count as an instrument?

when I was in middle school my parents made me play the guitar so I would do something besides play video games all day. I could learn & play songs but couldn't do anything original / improv because muh autism. I dropped it after a year or so.

I still have the guitar 10 years later but why bother.

>>39331946
thanks maybe later i don't want to overuse my hands since I'm just getting back into it

if you want to know the trick with the way I mastered it is to have a channel on the left (not all the way though) doing the basier part (lowpass or highpass forgot which), the middle doing the reverb part, and right doing the higher part (another highpass or lowpass thing) then make the middle have a 25ms delay and the right have a 50ms delay then whatever other tuning to the sound so it sounds balanced and the reverb isn't too much or some shit (has to be subtle)

Buy guitar, pirate method books, practice. Not that hard, I bought my first bass for 80 USD off of ebay and picked up a crap 20 USD amp, and I torrented a couple gigabytes worth of bass method and song books, picked one at random that started at the beginning and took off from there

There are many cheap good quality guitars.
If you want a knock off popular guitar backed by the orginal company I suggest you buy a squier or epiphone guitar.
$200 can buy you a nice solid quality guitar.
They also sell packs for $250 including an amp.

There are many free online resources available.

this though the only time girls talked to me was at open mics it will also make normies respect you in some way if you're good at it

jamming with people too, is a way to get into that part of the brain that usually you get to with deep conversation which robots lack
>>
Anyone have any recommendations on how to meet band mates as an asocial autistic robot?

Ok, so maybe I'll buy one. But how do I stay motivated to play it? I'll probably lose interest quickly I I don't feel improvement
>>
>>39331992
there's nothing wrong with experimentation but you should realize that what you've done here is weird as fuck and doesn't really sound good (or it won't sound good to most people, maybe it does to you). the effect is anything but subtle, and it just sounds like you're playing on the other end of a long hallway from the listener. if that's the effect you were going for, fine, but you could achieve it much easier and simpler by simply dialing in the settings correctly on any reverb effects unit
>>
>>39332168
Everyone sucks in the begining.
You just have to stick with it that's the only way to improve.
Work on a song you like that's pretty easy.
After you do your main fundamentals practice work on that song.
It's fun after a while and you'll feel better.
Don't try anything too hard or you'll just feel bad.
I really hope you do this and stick with it.
This is a really fun hobby.
>>
>>39332168
you'll feel bad about spending however much you do on a guitar and not playing it
if you do go ahead with this, check out justinguitar.com. good site and it'll show what to practice and when so you can get to grips with guitar. good luck, anon
>>
>>39332168
Motivation is a meme, get into the habit of playing and practicing everyday. No one has the motivation to practice for years, but they do get into the habit of practicing and just do it naturally IF they stick to it

>>39332566
that is pretty bizarre anon. next time pick an instrument used in music you like. i picked up guitar when i was 14 because i was really into classic rock at the time. before that i was playing piano which i gradually lost interest in because i wasn't listening to piano focused music as much. i also played clarinet for a while and that interest tanked even worse because i clarinet is REALLY rare in the music i listen to. nowadays i've lost interest in guitar a bit because once again guitar focused music isn't what i'm into nowadays and i've gotten back into piano a bit more.

One of the only things I enjoy, actually. Really glad I stuck with it all these years.

I'm not that great (some people have told me otherwise), but jamming with others, playing over one of my loops, or even a drum track makes my day a bit better.
>>

I've played for about 12 years (since I was 14). Never had any lessons. Recently started learning some Fahey tunes and they are hands down the most fun. You can play them slow and soft, mechanically, or just fucking wail on it and it will still sound nice. Other people think it's the absolute tits when you play it for them and unless you say something they'll never know it's not an original. 10/10 would recommend Fahey. Most original guitarist to ever live
>>
>>39333610
I've been playing for about 6 years and never got lessons either.

Any particular Fahey songs/jams/whatever you'd recommend starting out with?
>>
I always wanted to learn how to play the piano. Any advice on where to start from?
>>
>>39330977
I don't find it fun. I played for a while and it was fun but it just lost its luster and I grew into other hobbies.
>>
>>39333869
I play guitar, but would also really like to learn piano.

I started on guitar by learning a few chords and practicing from there. I like playing my own progressions, but maybe you could look up some easy beginner songs to learn that you like.

You'd be amazed by how easy some of the best songs are to play.
>>
>>39333800
The first one I learned is Poor Boy a Long Way From Home but I'd suggest starting with In Christ There Is No East or West as it's just the same pattern over and over and there's some room for variation. PBLWFH and Wine & Roses are my favorite to play though. Really easy to express yourself with. A lot of his songs are in a different tuning, and Open D is sooooo easy to play around with. There's a site somewhere that lists all of his songs and tells you what tuning it's in, but I can't be fucked finding it. That way you can learn a few without having to retune after each
>>
>>39331234
I play bass and want to move on to playing guitar. Honestly, if you are soending more than 250 at least it is probably a fine bass.
>>
because you're only setting yourself up for complete failure if you expect to ever end up being even a semi-successful musician and there's no point in paying all that money to be a mediocre musician
>>
>>39330977
Ha, but I very much am!
>>
>>39331018
>>39331086
Start with some Nirvana. Their songs are easy as piss and just require basic strumming patterns and power chords.
Plus, if you like Nirvana it's fun to play them.
This is how I got started.
>>
I can't get good, I can't play faster, I dislike reading theory, I don't want to apply it
