I too miss the days of when I'd come back from high-school back in 2011 when conversations and the general atmosphere of this board was pretty good. Just get off the bus from a highly uncomfortable and depression ridden day at school. Probably play some TF2 or some shit, talking to TF2/vidya friends in Mumble, and enjoying some /r9k/. Then around 2015 shit got really bad here.

But I feel you. We yearn for someone that has similar qualities, history, and personality. For people like us it is certainly hard to come by. On top of that we are likely not the most desirable specimens. It's a fairly sucky life for us. All we can do is try to better ourselves and move forward.

You would meet people like you if you just kept expanding your social circle, accepting that most connections will be shallow. If you accept that and then limit the energy you invest in those connections then it's actually manageable stress, and definitely worth it once those friends of friends start showing up whom you really get along with.

I'll admit I'm on easy mode as I'm back in university after some years wasted, and meeting people there is easier than elsewhere. But whatever your situation is I'm sure there are ways. Worst case, try reconnecting with older contacts. If nothing else it would help brush the rust off which would help once you do meet those interesting people you're looking for.
