well when I was 12 I was doing kung-fu in a dojo and the teacher (an old chinese man) forced all of us to do splits, and he went pushing on our shoulders for us to achieve it. It was very painful.

I feel like this type of parent is the opposite of what we had. She is so desperate to get her damn brat good at gymnastics that she's going to damn near split her in half. Meanwhile my mom couldn't give a shit to get off the couch to help me with my math homework.

I don't have any medical training or anything, but this seems like it could be potentially harmful. Have we seen any physical therapists or anything weighin on this? I get that there is often a lot of sports training that is supposed to hurt, but forcing the body into a position it's not accustomed to all t once seems dangerous.
