As somebody who constantly got the smell of my room compared to stables, I ended up changing this. Key things

#1 - Continually keep your room clean and yourself clean. Don't be like a 13 year old not showering and covering himself with axe body spray.

#2 - Go on an organising bender and throw a lot of shit out. This will have a twofold effect. First, there will be less things for smellz to get trapped in. Second, it will make your room far easier to clean, resulting in it being cleaner on average, reducing smellz. This is especially true of fabrics, I threw out about half my clothes at one point and I am forced to do laundry EVERY week to not run out of shirts and underwear.

#3 - Ventiliation. It is exponentially harder to keep a room smelling nice if the air in it doesn't circulate for days. If the air in the room is replaced every few hours, that's less time for smellz to build up. Open your window and potentially invest in a window fan. If you're a stoner, a window fan blowing outwards by the way can REALLY help

#4 - Tackle sources of smellz. Don't smoke tobacco or weed, especially in your room. Don't keep an open garbage bin of cum tissues, yes, they do smell, strongly. Avoid rugs/carpets which are harder to clean regularly and trap more smells.

#5 - Unironically get into Jordan Peterson's less political content, I'd suggest starting with his maps of meaning series, as he helps put people in a mindset where they don't go between being too lazy to clean their room to cleaning it out of shame, but actually WANTING to keep your room clean and orderly, so it's organised and useful to them, and they can present it to others with pride.

I ended up, for all my other loser tendancies, insisting on becoming cleaner eventually not just because of the peterson meme but because I had a very minimalist friend, owned almost nothing, but cleaning his room up took like 10 minutes even if every possession he had was dumped out. We ALWAYS hung out at his place, and that was because largely, it was always clean, while we brought the stuff from my messy overfilled disorganised room for him to use. One thing I will emphasise is if you have a hard time keeping clean, I would seriously consider if you have so much shit, it's actually a burden. Hoarders are vertually always smelly because no matter how hard they try, their homes will fill up with dust and shit.

If you want a room that's easy to keep clean and smellz free, think of a hospital room, those are probably the perfect example, these rooms smell of nothing but disinfectant despite having people with violent shits regularly inside them. There is very little for smell to get trapped in, there isn't a bunch of shit lying around, there is ventilation, they do stuff like putting paper liners on the bed, and they DO regularly clean it. They don't have a laundry basket hanging around, all fabrics like a hospital gown are very quickly washed after use. The shit they do have is neatly organized away into drawers. If you want a smell free room, that should be the model of what you want.

If you REALLY want to make a change, and not just cover things up for tomorrow, I strongly recommend you don't just clean your shit and spray febreeze, but change how you live so everything is easier to keep clean and smell free.
