If you think this is the only one you'll see there's one coming out at 2024! https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/solar/2024-april-8
Also there's a Lunar Eclipse if next year if you ever want to see it.

I live right where the direct path is, so the sun will be completely covered. Is it okay to look at the sun during the time the moon covers it?

If you can't see the eclipse, but really want to experience one, there will definitely be more of them happening in other places in the world sooner than later. If it's one of your life goals, just start plans now to go see one in the future.
>>
>>39213286
No. It would take an instant's worth of direct sunlight to burn your eyes. Your lenses focus light from the outside world onto your retina. Think of how fast a toy starts melting under a magnifying glass, or of how quickly you can set fire to a cigarette or a bowl using sunlight. You will fire a fucking laser into the inside of your eyballs if you fuck this up.
>>
It must suck to be a doctor today, huh?

>>39213286
yeah I think so. You can check with a pinhole viewer when it's completely covering

People are literally cooking their eyes out of their heads en masse today. It's nerve tissue, too. It doesn't even regenerate. That part of your eye is just damaged now. You're supposed to know not to do this.
>>
Since when was it dangerous to glance at the sun? How would an eclipse make it worse?
>>
>>39213376
It's just to bear witness and make it part of your memory. Don't look then. Miss your one opportunity to turn your head slightly for two seconds and witness a rare event.
>>

>part of sun is uncovered for vast majority of people
>people stare at the eclipse at length
>prolonged damage from direct sunlight, two hours' worth for the whole eclipse

No, you're just gonna have a lot more people focusing the sun's light directly through their lenses for extended periods today. Even a few seconds is damaging, but these guys are gonna go full-on solar retinopathy like that chick on speed in 1999.

>>39214961
you need special eclipse viewing ones. Average sunglasses will not have the adequate protection. It can really do permanent damage no joke. The key here is when people look at the sun during the eclipse thinking it will be ok since it is being blocked out but this fools the eyes since the corona is still visible. Where your pupils would contract to let in less light when the sun is bright, the blocked out sun will cause your eyes to be fooled into thinking its not that bright so the pupils will expand to let in light at normal capacity, meanwhile the sun isn't actually less powerful, it is still burning at full heat and light and you're still getting the light that is coming from around the moon which is equally as power as the sun during its normal brightness.

TL;DR don't be a fucking retard and look right at the sun at any time, even during eclipse. Generic sunglasses won't help you. You'll need special types or improvise with a welding helmet or something with insane UV sunlight protection.

Hideously normal.
>>
>>39213474
Its fucking normies trying to put themselves on the throne of attention in the wake of an attention turning event. They have to fucking chime up with their poignant and ACTSHULLY bullshit so they can feel superior and everyone will know they are the master of eclipses because they are smart and made the comment on their twitter above all there other normie friends. Everyone fucking know looking at the sun isn't good for your eyes, but Stacy McLuvnNiggerdik needs you to know this interesting and life changing fact that she knows because shes better than you. Fuck I hate normies.
>>
You guys can just use a floppy disk to look at it. Slide the metal part over and look through the black film

They automatically turn on when it gets dark - which happened during the total eclipse. Please read more.

WA fag here, I wasn't ever able to find any eclipse glasses and I looked at it filtering through a tree. I took off my glasses to minimize the sunlight magnifying or some shit. It just looked really bright. I hope I don't go blind but my vision is shit anyways not like it matters

Yes, but you didn't miss much since you weren't in the path of totality. It just made the sun look dim and cooled down a little.

Uh it didn't even get noticeably darker here and glancing at the Sun looked normal. Was supposed to be 70-80%
>>
>>39213397
Anon and every other Anon that buys into this are fucking idiots buying into slimy "special day" marketing. People on a normal day everywhere probably accidentally look at the unblocked sun once or thrice a day without any permanent damage. Do you know why the phenomenon known as "eclipse blindness" is a thing? People are simply looking at the sun for prolonged periods of time (up to minutes even). Glancing at the eclipse today a few times for a few seconds (1-3 seconds) will at the very most cause a mild discomfort. If you are buying the glasses, just save your time ans burn your money or donate it to a Jewish charity.

I didnt bother buying special glasses. I'm not in the total path either, so it only partially covered the sun, like a crescent moon. Didn't really get dark or anything, just some of the sun was blocked. I took like two or three one second glimpses with some sunglasses on.
