University General. How y'all holding up, anons?

I'm packing to move back into the dorm tomorrow. Held off on packing for way too long but I'll get it done.

Just moved into my apartment today. I have two other roomates, and one is a real sperg who has stayed in his room with the door closed the whole time while I was moving in with my dad. I'm autistic as fuck but damn it's a bit strange

Pre-calc. I just have trouble paying attention, I show up to class every day but I just can't get myself to focus. I tried to have a serious conversation about this with my parents after I failed the second time but they just laughed and said I was overreacting. Idk what it is man, I'm just gonna try my hardest this time and hope I don't fuck up again.

I'm doing a required co-op this semester, 2nd one of 3 I'm required to do. The pay is bomb but holy shit it's boring. I'd rather be stressed out from classes. At least then I don't have to work 40 hours a week at a job they don't trust me to do actual tasks at since I'm only a college student.

Go to every single class and do your required readings. If you don't immediately understand a concept then make an effort to understand it as quickly as possible, not just before a test/homework assignment.

If the problem is with a math course the only thing you can do is do it over and over until it becomes second nature. If you just don't even know where to begin with the concept go to your school's math center.
>>
>>39185241
I don't really study at all. I'll read the material 5 minutes before class and then study my notes 30 minutes before a test

>>
Moved into the dorm today, been anxious about it for months but it actually went pretty well. Got the side of the room I wanted even though my roommate got here first (he wanted the other side), got a pretty comfy setup that's private and blocked off from the other side of the room.

My roommate doesn't seem to bad either, he's definitely a normie but he's not chad. He's been friendly, he's been trying to talk to me about stuff and I've been trying to make conversation back but I'm thinking that he's starting to tell that something wrong with me, socially. He said that we should go to this gaming thing together on Friday, I'm anxious about it but I'm glad that he at least likes me enough to ask me to go with him.

Of course, the real shitshow starts on Monday, classes don't start until the 28th, so next week they're just making us do a bunch of social shit to """get to know each other""". I already see several "small group sessions" on the schedule.

do all the homework to the best of your ability.
study for 3-4 hours before tests, going over notes and textbook.

>Given the choice of living at the main campus or driving to a brand new smaller campus just for Comp Sci and Business.

On one hand the classes are like 15-20 people at most and I've been able to avoid talking to anyone for 3 months. On the other hand I can very quickly see that my new life of not talking to anyone is affecting my ability to talk. I've always stuttered a bit and fumbled over my words but it's getting very bad very quickly. Even when I'm with my close friends I stutter constantly and babble like a child. It's like I'm losing my ability to speak english. And this makes socializing even fucking harder. I got assigned to a group for a project and to them it was probably like speaking to a refugee.

I may have used the incorrect term, but it essentially boils down to "start speaking to people as much as you can until it's no longer something you actively avoid or dislike." A therapist may help you along, but you may be able to work on it just by getting out of your own comfort zone (and your head.)

Psych graduate here, soon to start grad school.

The best way to study is incrementally. Look up the forgetting curve, you lose nearly all information eight hours later. Study for like thirty minutes after class just reviewing.

Tesr yourself. Don't read through your notes and just repeat them. If you can't say a definition or a process out loud yourself, you don't know it.

Create your own examples when applicable. It's called meaningful elaboration. When you take the mental effort to create an original example, you have a better chance to remember it.

Write your notes by hand. This is just personal preference, but I can't focus if I'm just typing. Don't bother copying notes over unless you literally need rote memorization. The most important thing to studying is understanding, with a little bit of remembering.

I just want to give a little advice here for those about to finish up uni.

I graduated with a degree in biology and a returned to finish a new degree in construction management and now own a company with 5 employees.
Study something which teaches you a skill which can be applied immediately. This was the biggest problem with my first degree. Theory heavy degrees are near worthless.

Most post graduate degrees are worthless and experience is much more highly valued over a post graduate degree. (obviously excluding medicine, clinical degrees)

Also understand that you are not limited to what your degree is in. The degree is just an entry tool, that is it.

If you want to make a lot of money very quickly in your career which is near limitless then get into sales. A salesman is most valued position for most companies and are paid the most.

For example I am currently paying a salesman a little more then $200,000 AUD while I am only paying myself $90,000 AUD.
>>
>>39187407
What would be a good degree for a salseman?
Finance?
>>
>>39187420
I have junior salesman and a senior salesman.
Both have no degrees.

When I was looking to fill their positions most of the applicants had no degrees or a business degree.

You don't need any degree to be a salesman as it's usually all the skills are taught to you by the company. Such as gathering leads, cold calling, how to speak to certain clients ect..

I learned myself through books such as Spin Selling and a handful of other books. My senior salesman had a wealth of experience and he now has taught our junior while helping perfect my sales process system.

Electrical engineering here.
My uni's prof sucked most of the time, so I often only go for the first 3 lectures in the semester and just read the lecture notes on my free time. Make mindmaps and notes helps too, at least in categorizing the important segments being taught in the module.
I hardly go for tutorial as im making my own notes and it will already take up the time i should be using for doing the tutorial questions.
so in the end, I'll only actively go for the first 2 weeks and then grind the past year papers and tutorial worksheets on the last 2 weeks with the materials I've prepped beforehand.

PhD in Pure Math is high quality if you are a great writer as well and can publish a lot.

However, if you scrape by your PhD and you have no engineering skills then you're probably not gonna be able to apply to many non-academic positions. Notice the difference in the picture between "Math," "Applied Math," and "Stats."

Applied Math and Stats are more similar than the pic would have you believe. Also while Pure Math is less diverse, I wouldn't say it was terrible. You can still work at any community college and make OK pay without worrying about getting a job.

I spent over 3 hours a day studying (Not counting work, homework, and class. Total was over 10 hours a day). I also networked with over 50% of my professors and made sure to take many physics and engineering courses.

Pure math is extremely hard to succeed in alone. While doable, it makes research opportunities very niche and hard to land (since some chink will always outbid you and research for free).
It is a wiser career choice to do Pure Math Major + (Eng/Phys) Minor. I did Electrical Engineering. EE is secretly a type of applied math. this is why so many undergrads drop it. Signal analysis is pretty rigorous (only functional analysis more rigorous) 2bh.

This all reminds me of my comically bad first semester in college-

>Lose most of my high school buddies to petty squabbling in the summer
>move into a dumpster fire of a dorm with a picture of Eisenhower that's been there since the last renovation
>roommate is the embodiment of chad before I even heard of the meme (rich, parties an insane amount, already had frat connections, chick magnet, etc) but instantly acts like an asshole to me an hour after unpacking
>welcome week goes to shit because I'm terrible at expressing myself to new people, end up isolated
>Accidentally select the most cutthroat professors for hard math and science courses
>all early morning classes
>Roommate starts bringing a new girl home every night, requests privacy for 5 hours a night (late)
>stop eating or sleeping, eventually start taking long walks late at night and smoking cigars to pass the time
>RA gives me a bizarre pep talk about depression for walking in the hallway (to my room) late at night, and then immediately writes me up for having a coffee maker in my room

Ended up getting a 3.9 gpa that year, and even managed to keep it up ever since. Things have gotten far better since, but it's funny to see how bad things were back then
>>
>>39184448
Actually, unless you go to a top notch law school (name of the school matters at that point) you're not going to get in at any of the top firms which pay a lot and have awesome benefits, and you'll most likely be working shittier jobs like a paralegal or a public service attorney
>>
>>39185241

Speaking for college only (if you're in high school or go to a shit college, then this doesn't apply to you most likely)

3 hours of studying a day for each class you have
Know all your exam days
Go in for tutoring, and study in an environment in which you won't be distracted (i.e library, dorm house lounge, etc)
Don't eat and study, it's proven that it fucks you hard
Drink lots of water so your brain is hydrated
Build good relationships with your professors, and make study groups. At least study groups help for me.

Idk just do your due diligence and don't be a lazy degenerate who blazes up everyday not getting shit done

Yep I am familiar with that degree now. They only offer one of those in the whole of Australia.

The problem with that degree is that's it's way too broad.

You don't learn enough about project management, quantity surveying, finance ect.. Just a tiny bit of everything.

It's sort of like getting a degree in flat science which is a bit of biology, chemistry, maths and physics but not much of any specific one.

If you are interested in the development side then go construction management.

if you are interested in more of the investment side then just get a finance degree.

if you are interested more on the design of a building which can also go into construction management fields then go civil or structural engineering.

I've work in the construction industry in the estimating/project management side

There's no better way to get irrefutable proof that you're a complete loser than uni. Even in a place filled with people my age and plenty of attractive girls my age I still haven't held hands with a girl in my whole life. I am even having trouble making friends. He asked my to help with work a few times and it was so weird, I understand we're all first years but having someone 8 years older than me treat me like a teacher is kind of odd.

25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

Graduating in February. First year was depressed as fuck cause I studied abroad, was always anxious about no friends etc. Stopped caring in the second year and it hasn't been too bad.

Did a meme business degree because I (correctly) assumed I wouldn't be able to force myself to study the required amount for something more rigorous due to depression, bad work ethic and laziness.

Business is a joke pretty much, don't do it unless you have some serious nepotism opportunities. A lot of the international students in my program were just getting their degrees as a token so daddy could hire them at his company.

Gonna spend the year after I graduate learning programming so I at least have some sort of basis to develop a marketable skill.

I actually loved writing essays in HS. I always got a high grade for it. Even in my basic English class requirement in college I had gotten only 95+ on my essays except the one written one because auto correct doesn't exist by hand plus timed essays are cancer. take an economics class and learn about the determinants of supply and demand then ask that question again

let me guess, you've heard that:
1) Comp Sci and STEM in general have an abundance of jobs
&
2) Law has no jobs

LOL

typically, law firms go to law schools every year to interview 2L's for internships for that second summer

recently, instead of doing these interviews in the 2nd 2L semester, they've moved it up to the first semester because the top students don't feel like they have to commit to any offers they receive

Yeah, no jobs in law

I'm starting uni tomorrow but I really don't want to. The only reason I'm going is because I need to move away from my parents because they are starting to get mad at me for being a useless neet. I'm gonna study engineering physics but it doesn't really interest me. The thought of moving out scares me to death. I just wanna stay here and get a comfy job, for a while, but that seems to be impossible.

I had a good run, but this is probably gonna be the end of me.

Tfw at that point I need to narrow down between mechanical engineer or construction management. It's not on that chart, but the stem advisors at my school like to ram it down our throats that they literally can't produce enough CM students because employers already look into them by the time graduation rolls around. At it's usually the path ex-engineering students take when they give up halfway through, but work is guaranteed

only if your willpower isn't very strong. try making yourself be in social situations and if you can't do it, then look for help. the first week of school is essential for this, find a group of kind-looking normies or freshmen in the dining hall and shyly ask to sit with them, they might include you in their friend group if you come across as just a shy person looking for company. i did that at the beginning of last year and now i'm part of a group of turbo-normies. i don't really enjoy it but at least i'm getting better at social interaction

>I want people I can do things I like with
what do you think you are going to do with the anime club? it's going to be full of retards like you so afraid of their own shadow they will never do anything.

you "don't have anything in common" with normies because your hide your self in safe spaces. When you are going to interviews and they are asking you what you did at uni how many are going to want to hear about your endless circular conversations about waifus and NGE? What are you going to do when you get out and can't relate to anyone because YOU made no effort to even try.

you expect every cunt to bend to what you like and do nothing your self. Do what you like but don't fucking post here in 4 years, tears in your eyes crying about how normies are "stealing" your jobs just because they can talk their way through an interview when you did nothing to change the situation.

also read my fucking post

>join a club join one that will improve your job prospects OR one full of normies
>>join a club join one that will improve your job prospects
>>>join a club join .. improve your job prospects

do volunteering, get extra skills. don't just sit in your safe bubble you useless little bitch.

finally don't even waste your fucking time acting like I'm some normie pretending this shit is easy to make you feel bad. I'm not, and it's not but that's not any fucking excuse.

It's rude posting all that to me when it doesn't apply.

Tfw can't get any ADHD medication in Australia and the process to try and get diagnosed with the disorder very very long and very expensive only to have a chance of a prescription.
>>
>>39213092
I was refuting your "nothing in common" argument not specifically accusing you as I was with the other guy
>>
>>39213071
>make friends by hanging out with people you hate versus people with common interests
>projecting
You might actually be autistic, tell me what I'm supposed to talk to these normalfags I can't don't even like about when we have zero common interests?
>>
>>39213121
>I hate people I don't know
just join the anime club you're never going to get a job at the end any way.
>>
>>39213152
You still haven't answered my question once, what the fuck would I do with normies? I just want a friend or two I can watch anime and play a game with. I'm not going to get that hanging out with normalfags who have nothing in common with me and that I know from dealing with in daily life that I don't like. There's nothing to be gained from them
>>
>>39213111
>I was refuting
I think I was mostly just projecting, to be honest. I'm really not the person to talk about these things with any authority.
>>
>>39213197
You would talk about everything and anything. You'd get your end away. You'd play video games. You'd get some new interests. You'd get out your fucking nut. You'd gain confidence.

Every employer you meet, every colleague, client, and boss are going to be normies. You can hide from them just now but you can't forever.
>>
>>39213284
>You would talk about everything and anything.
Alright I'm done you're clearly more autistic than me somehow, normalfags aren't going to want to talk about anime or obscure games. And if you had bothered to read instead of just projecting all over the place on a simple post about someone wanting a friend to do shit they like with you'd have seen that just managing to go to an anime or gaming club without having a panic attack is well out of my comfort zone. Not every has it as easy as you and people like you are why I'm not interested in dealing with normalfags anyway they have no idea how hard social skills are for some people and just immediately jump on their do what I do bro logic like it works for everyone. I'm fine just joining the anime club and making friends with some neckbeards I can actually talk to about things I enjoy instead of spending another year alone wishing I had people to talk to. Feel free to continue projecting and assuming though.
>>
>>39213377
remember when I said
>finally don't even waste your fucking time acting like I'm some normie pretending this shit is easy to make you feel bad

I'm not projecting and I'm not assuming I'm talking to you from experience. Take it or leave it.
>>
>>39213433
>finally don't even waste your fucking time acting like I'm some normie pretending this shit is easy to make you feel bad
But that's exactly what you're doing.
>go talk to normalfags bro
>it's easy bro
>just lie bro
>you'll just magically be interested in shit you used to hate after talking to them bro

You're entirely projecting and assuming, I wanted friends to watch anime with and you immediately jumped on telling me it was worthless and that I should just talk to normalfags instead because somehow by your twisted logic it would be good for me. You assumed all that from a simple post.
>>
>>39213433
>>39213498
Shut up you autismos
>>
>>39213498
when did I say it was easy?
when did I say you'd magically be interested in things you don't like?
why when I proposed two options, "doing things to boost your employability" and "hanging out with normies" you have exclusively focused on the second?
what do you know about my life to call me a normie?
who's assuming and projecting?

>>39213529
Sorry but I genuinely was trying to help, this will be my last post on the subject
>>
>>39213570
I don't need to boost my employability, all I wanted was friends and you went off on an autistic tangent

I haven't met a single CompE major who started at less than $70k

Rent starts on the 4th but my course doesn't start til the 25th. When should I move back in brodies?

I'm almost 30 and have a BA I've never really used. Would it be worth it to go back for a second Bachelors? I've been in retail for a while.

I lived with a law student in first year. She had several 3 hour exams and at least one 20,000 word essay.

It is unless you go to a big name school enjoy being unemployed or paid the same as someone who went for half the time you did, law is a meme and nothing like what people make it out to be it's not some guaranteed employment/get rich quick degree like it's made out to be

3'rd semester studying chemical engineering here. Chose chemistry because I'm crazy good at it. Also couldn't wait to meet and study with fellow nerds like me.

Except the class is filled with fucking normies. And guess what 1/3 of the class fails the exam at the end of 1'st semester. Meanwhile I got straight A's but still have no friends.

I think I might give away my organic chemistry book, I'm doing biochem and only needed it for the first year.

Maybe I'll put up a post saying "first come first served" and see loads of freshers rush to my door.

>>39213844
On the first day of O-chem the lecturer said that 10% of you will drop out before the year ends and 10% of you will fail.

He also said that he'd leave us if his 2 million bong patent was successful and told us to shut the fuck up when he came in cranky with a broken wrist, nice guy.
>>
Boys we need to come together and think of a kickstarter scam, there is no liability for not delivering, fuck this uni shit.

Who's with me?
>>
>>39211137
it's definitely weird, usually people hang out for a bit when they first move in together to get to know each other. This guy just stayed in his room with the door closed while me and the other roommate chilled
>>
>>39213919
Most of our lecturers have been nice, but of those we've had 3 asian lecturers and they all spoke english so bad you could hardly understand them. One of them was particularly bad because his voice would make me zone out and not listen to anything he said.
>>
What are some sorta good schools for computers and tech programming? I can't get into the real good ones because when I got my BA I didn't get great grades.
>>
>>39214299
I have a Ukrainian lecturer who teaches physical chemistry and it's the same problem with him.

God, I can't wait to finish school. I know anons will say "That life sounds good!" No it isn't, some days you just feel like a worthless child. Don't waste time in school kids.

Literally every time I go into the communal bathroom I see the same blue shoes under the stall door.

Why does this guy need to poop/fap 5 times a day?
>>
>>39215468
what are you going to do then off yourself?

this is your moment of truth, your college career of truth, fuck this up and there's no redemption going back home to your family that's not even close to you so they can give you hell.

trust me, I was suicidal at college and dropped out I only regret it.

get good grades so even if your life is shit you can still look back with confidence you put some points on the board, otherwise everyone will just see you as a dropout.

if you're struggling get help ASAP nigga
>>
>>39215498
Why do you look under stall doors tho
>>
>>39215514
True. I almost wanted to drop out too, but now am close extremely close to finishing. It was the choice of major that fucked me up. It's boring af though.

And you know what gets me fucked up? It's mostly myself to blame. That's why am frustrated as a motherfucker.

If it's only the second night then she's likely a very horny person, so she'd be a lot more likely to cheat...give it a month MAX and she will be having serious doubts about her relationship

this mindset and anxiety was something I wasn't able to overcome. I hope you fair better in your final struggle.

>Starting 4 year software development degree and I know literally nothing about it
I don't know why I chose it honestly. Just don't want to be a neet anymore.
>>
>>39215828
Also how stupid am I for choosing software development over computer science? I could've done cs but it seems way harder and I know I won't have the motivation for it. Software development seems slightly easier but I could be completely fucking wrong there.

CS could be more interesting if you'd want to really get into it, do research/stay in academia
but for the vast vast majority of people, it doesn't make any difference whatsoever
