For those of you don't understand "it's reddit", on /tv/, Reddit is perceived as a bunch of naive tools who believe that being a nerd is cool. As a result, they're childishly enthusiastic about their hobbies (which they've only barely scratched the surface of), find random humor completely hilarious, and are notoriously pedantic. This is due to the fact that they believe that nerds are some kind of "cultural elite" simply because their interests aren't completely mainstream.

BUT, since they don't see themselves as particularly alienated by society, they haven't developed the pleb/patrician paradigm, unlike 4chan. I just fucking love Rick and Morty, in the way that I fucking love science. It's so random and cool - it's like the show was designed for us Redditors, see? reddit encourages groupthink. the most-"liked" replies and topics are pushed to the top, and people vet each other based on their previous posting history. by making content that is easily digestible, relatable, and appeals to humor or a sense of outrage, it is possible to farm "likes" and quickly rise to the top. people who do this quickly are seen as being correct in most cases, and the community mindset shifts to follow.
by contrast 4chan has no voting system and no user history (unless you're a tripcoding retard) and so every comment is judged individually. this leads to a discussion board that is good at weeding out untruth, since a comment calling out BS isn't buried by others who perceive it as being against the norm.
Use r*ddit and 4chan interchangeably? Why? To expose myself to an infinitely worse community half the time? I don't think so. All their content comes from here anyway.

Thank you for saving my life, Reddit!

Over this past year I was working through refractory depression and came really close on several occasions to attempted suicide. One of the only things that keep me going was this sub. It may not make sense to a lot of people why because it seems like we post a lot of really dark and suicidal things on here, but it reminds me that there are other people going through this too, I'm not alone, and it's ok to laugh about my depression sometimes. I've gotten help from both my doctor and psychiatrist as well as taking medication and switching jobs. But thank you to all of you who continually making me laugh and not feel alone.
