The narrative r9k pushes is the former one.
And it is because a lot of r9k members have found out that there are actual girls here.
And girls are attracted by communities that aren't sex-centric, but romance/love/emotions-centric.

And people don't want that. They are desperate for female attention. They need validation from girls.
