californian here and in my specific area the homeless population has grown significantly due to the fact that rent is too high (like 1,500$ for a small one room cottage) and the only jobs left here are extreme manual labor and degrading work

I've been trying recently. So far I've only gotten one e-mail back asking how fast I type. I think I took too long to respond to the e-mail for them to care. The worst part about applying for jobs is having to register an account on every website, being asked to upload your resume, then be required to spend the next hour filling out boxes that say almost the same thing as your resume.

Unironically this. Employers use to train new hires, but now they can afford to only hire those with prior experience, so they leave training to someone else. But the few who actually do the training are so few now that they can afford to also be extremely selective in who they hire.

Fucking this I'm at 18 months now and love my job. Decent money, benefits are amazing, good combination of mental challenges and hard physical labor. Best part is this year they started firing shitty rednecks and dead weight that managed to skate for 5 years somehow. I had searched for a job for three years until someone I knew basically just gave me one. I'm definitely probably too autistic in the interviews, but I can and do work very hard.
