Based on that I would say there are levels of addiction, and some are benign. I definitely don't think people who do drugs occasionally are addicts necessarily though, unless the reason for the usage being occasional is not having access to the drug(s) despite desperately wanting them. I try to smoke weed every day, or at least once a week, but often I don't. It's kind of an intense experience and can end up giving me anxiety (despite only taking very tiny hits), but it helps put things into perspective and I end up focusing more on certain goals in my life. I don't do it as much as I should. I make $20 worth last an entire year. Yes, it's an artificial source of "inspiration", and I'm definitely a bit of a loser who can't seem to steer their life in the ways I want to, but I manage to be happy somewhat regularly (with or without weed) and my life is stable, so I figure I'm doing okay. And I actually like being a loser in many ways. I'm incapable of incorporating or pretending to incorporate society's "status and material wealth" value system, and glad for it. I've been blessed with a disposition of being able to fully enjoy life just by taking a walk outside, with or without weed, and it's mostly without.
