Cats are much easier to take care of and they won't poop or pee anywhere as long as you have a litter box

Get a greyhound. Contrary to popular belief they're not crazy "constant on the go go go go" dogs. That's a border collie, that can run for days nonstop due to being raised to be cattle/sheep dogs. Greyhounds need like...20min of exercise where they go skitzo and sprint around. Then they're done and just wanna relax on the couch and be cuddly. Not the "cutest" dog but they're forever needing homes due to being discarded by the racing industry, and there's even some non for profit group who'll help with medical bills for adopting them.

I have a whippet x chihuahua and he's the cutest, most adorable thing I've ever had. I've always been a big dog man growing up with 4 generations of German shepherds, but he made me fall in love with him. Most personality I've ever seen in a dog. Good temperament so long as it's not another dog (kinda reminds me of me with people).

Sometimes. If they aren't trained not really. I feed my dog table scraps. Scratch her in that always-itchy spot. Let her outside when she's scared. But 2/3 of the time she'll snuggle with my brother and when I try to call her she'll give me a condescending look.
