Great combat, decent stat system, random encounters in the open are fun, tournaments can be fun, and endgame involved micro and macromanaging your army, castles, businesses and possibly kingdom. Marriage and duels are a nice touch too.

This boggles my mind. Why hasn't someone attempted a knock-off clone by now? It's fairly unique, but I think the key systems that make it so addictive and entertaining could be easily discerned and recreated, especially by a studio with a bit of money.

Beat up some bandits and work as a mercenary for one of the kingdoms. They'll pay you a salary to support your troops. When they go to war raid enemy villages and steal their shit to make money.

Focus on quality over quantity. Keep your dudes alive and grind XP on bandit scums. Recruit one of the named NPCs from a tavern into your party and boost their Training skill to upgrade your troops faster. Artimenner is good for this. Get another one for First Aid and Surgery. Jeremus is good for this. Basically, outsource your party-skills to other party members instead of trying to do everything yourself.
