Ok first of all, lifting will only barely help you lose weight. The thing that really drops your weight is raising your heart rate, ie the elliptical machine.

Second of all, the stronger your heart gets, the more you should be able to do on the elliptical. Harder, faster, longer workouts. You can eat more if you burn more. You can have a higher deficit than today, and also get to eat more

I'm reading online that a 350 pound man burns like 4500 calories a day naturally. If you burn 500 calories a day on the elliptical, that's 5000 calories per day. If you're eating 1500, that means you're literally losing a pound a day. You could be back down to 200 in less than 6 months.

In principle, yes, which is why it's usually fine to do this for a couple of days to a week. But this isn't just like trying out a new diet or something, this is a highly invasive and risky undertaking.
