Productivity doesn't necessarily mean you work harder. It could be down to better technology actually making the job easier.

The current trouble for low and middle income earners isn't the fault of the capitalist system, rather technology which is making these workers lose jobs to machines or accept lower wages. This is why we need universal income or negative income tax to help balance it out

I've actually put a ton of thought into this while having mindless repetitive jobs. My theory is that the wealthy and those that planned ahead will trade in precious metals.

Everyone else will go to a barter based system. There will be tons of commodities like fuel (while it lasts) and antibiotics (once again, while it lasts. 1 year shelf life lol). But assuming nobody tries to form a new economy with currency, the big five commodities will be water, food, sex, alcohol, and tobacco in that order. If you control one of those and can defend your control from raiders and shady traders with a pocket full of magic beans, you will be comfortable. Control three or even all five of them and you will be a goddamn Don.
