Benzoyl peroxide actually has a bleaching effect that will get rid of hyper-pigmentation marks left from acne. For deep acne scarring I recommend topical retinoids like tretinoin or differin (which you can buy over the counter now).

Well if you have cystic acne then you should go to a doctor and get on oral antibiotics or accutane. You are right that washing your face will not help if the cysts are deep under the skin.

Go back to your doctor and get on Doxycycline now. I take 200mg a day and my skin is completely clear. I used to have really big acne cysts on my face and back but not anymore since I started oral antibiotics.

since i had severe acne (now only scars since i started accutane) i find guys with acne more attractive than guys without. it makes me feel more comfortable around them, knowing that they won't look down on me for my skin

I was on Accutane for just over 9 months at 40mg a day. I only started seeing any improvement at 5 months. By 8 months I had no acne and the red scars were gone too. But the side-effects persisted for another 5 months after I was done. Now I haven't had a single pimple for 3 years.
10/10 would trade my health for no acne again
