On that note, parents need to stop this bullshit. It ends up being self-defeating, because once something goes wrong, it goes against that very sentence. That's like setting kids up for failure, a perfect example of good intentions turned bad.

What I do is tell my son that everything in life takes effort. You put effort into what you do, you work hard, and you will get there. You really have to try. And if you fail and make a mistake, you get back up. The greatest minds in the world made the most mistakes. If they just stopped at their failure, they wouldn't have changed the world. Usually the best path ends up being the hardest path. It's not easy, and there will be lots of mistakes along the way, but you can't give up. That's what I tell my 6-year old son. I want him to grow up appreciating hard work and dedication, and to not give up. He's hard on himself when it comes to mistakes, which is why he needed this talk. He's a smart kid and I know he'll get places, but I don't tell him that he's guaranteed to be successful, because the future is unpredictable and he ultimately will choose how he lives his life once he comes of age.
