Fucking retards, I'm in the US and getting a master's in CS atm and by the time I graduate my combined bachelors + masters debt will be $60k. And I already have at least one job offer for >$100k per year. Maybe they should have thought about the consequences of their actions rather than retardedly think it will all work out or hope for someone to bail them out

>>

>>americans will STILL defend their broken system
I am fine with it because any intelligent person will not have debt or will have a degree with which they can pay it off in a few years max

This system only affects retards who deserve to be wage slaving their entire lives
>>
>>38958012
It's not broken... That's the fucked up part. That's exactly the way the system is intended to work. If you're not part of the 1%, you're used like an animal. This country is a scam and that was probably always the intention.
>>
I have student loan debt through the government. I haven't paid shit and I'm not going to. All student loan debt will be forgiven sometime in the next 20 years after higher education reform happens. I never had any intention of paying back my loans because I could see this coming years ago when I first took out a loan.
>>
No debt for me because I worked, parents pay half and I get gubment bux because my mom's a poorfag and I live at home and have very few expenses. Not sure if I'll get a good job though because everyone says my degree is stupid.

with any debt you can just say "uhh i can pay like $50 a month lol" and they'll fuck off. the problem here is if they aren't good enough students to get a corresponding job for their degree.
>>
>>38957269
I'm about $34K in debt plus ~$20K for my car and I feel fucking trapped. I know a girl from school who's about ~100K in debt and she was failing classes left and right, don't even think she graduated
>>

It's pretty normal to dodge trucks on roads, now isn't it?
>>

20k isn't that much for a car at all. I'm probably going to trade it in and get a car for around 34K. That one should last me well after I've paid it off
>>
>>38958217
Later on sure but while your in school you might as well get something cheap. I paid 2k for my car and it's lasted years and nothing's ever went wrong with it.

>>even poor people can afford new smart phones
they are given away for free with multi year contracts. They still have to pay monthly to use their phones.

>>even poor people eat out at restaurants sometimes
I don't think this is at all accurate unless you're talking about McDonalds or some such.

>with any debt you can just say "uhh i can pay like $50 a month lol" and they'll fuck off.
And then interest accrues and you're trapped into paying a good deal more money than you actually borrowed.
>>
>>38958217
You're legit fucking retarded. NEVER take on any debt whatsoever except MAYBE student debt and a mortgage -- and even then, they should be absolutely minimized. There's no reason to have student debt that exceeds even 20k. Go in state, work a summer job or part time. Most millionaires don't drive cars worth more than 29k -- less than 2% of their net worth.

Then you wonder why you're poor. Americans are stupid and you all deserve it.

>tfw in finland

>muh job shortage myth
most "STEM" majors only take random intro courses and barely get by. usually the most qualified graduates came from another country and were already pretty skilled before they were invited. there's an argument for how colleges only want their money but the laws are what they are because american students are trash.

also if the pay is shit, you are free to justify that you are worth more. it doesn't take 2-4 years to realize what your potential will be down the road, and it shouldn't take you until graduation to seek out mentors or guidance from actual professionals.
>>
>>38958244
Because the guys who thought giving 18-year olds loans worth a house also included a rule that you can get rid off them by declaring insolvency. :^)

there's an argument for how it doesn't matter what your net worth is anyway, and there's an argument for how loans are (clearly) the most effective way to get something done, such as providing an education/training or developing a big project. nobody cares if you personally fuck up your payments and never catch up. it only breaks down once in a while when too many people fuck up. you still get to live a decent quality life if you are "trapped," but ideally you put the money into something which will help you get a step up.

when i took 400 level courses they were still usually introductory, they just had marginally higher expectations. the point is that most programs that i've heard about or looked up are not oriented around skills, they are oriented around trivial information. engineers might use 10% of what they learned in college, but low level analysts will use less than 1%.

Not him but this is only partially true. First off STEM the term is a bit too broad. Especially since a lot of bad degrees can be considered "technology" and pure math or physics degrees really require a graduate degree. Engineering on the other hand had pretty low recent graduate unemployment rate.

>>38958332
The U.S. college systeme has major problems. For some reason you don't just get the informations necessary for your degree, you also have to take forced courses on things that don't matter at all, just because of some morality trip the school has going on. Still, your degree takes as long as a European graduate would need, but they don't have to deal with this kind of nonsense.

Kys faggot I'm not poor. I have no debt and my college is totally paid for and then some. Unless you have 34k in cash you certainly shouldn't be buying a 34k car -- 34k of debt paid off over 5 years at a normal interest rate turns out to cost you 54k -- and that's not even counting the opportunity cost.
>>
>>38958327
There is only a shortage if you actually suck.

Heres what you do. Do well in highschool or if you fucked that up do well at a cc or shitty college.

Transfer to flagship state school asap or elite privite school that will give you fin aid.

Do well and actively search for internships for your summer.

Graduate with good job lined up in engineering or even finance.

Its literalky too easy. If you consider yourself somewhat smart you can do this without too much difficulty. Yeah youll have to study a lot but its really not thay bad.

Dunno. But if the pay is good I'd say it's reason to believe they probably are which brings me to:

>>Engineers make a lot
>wow got my noggin joggin. Most of those expected starting salaries are bullshit. You'll hit that once you've been working for ~3 years
Yeah I was referring mostly to engineers. As I said for a pure science/math student to work right in their field they require a graduate degree and "STEM" degrees that fall under technology aren't necessarily good degrees. Also I can't help but notice you have no real reason to believe the starting salaries are bullshit.

>inb4 there's a government conspiracy to hide the REAL starting salaries!!1!!
>>
>>38958807
>Also I can't help but notice you have no real reason to believe the starting salaries are bullshit.
I do. All of the friends I have from college and my own experiences, plus all the boards I browse related to Science jobs leads me to believe it's bullshit. They group 0 to around 4 years in the industry as starting to inflate the shitty salaries. I only know this for science and tech though. All the cs and ce friends I have aren't making close to the 60K they were salivating over and we all graduated 2 years ago. ChemE jobs are also apparently lowering in wages along with ee and ME

did you go to community college? i hear stories from amazon and other big tech companies that they hire people with a random certificate because they can't find anyone with programming experience, and they just teach them on the job. 80k is a low starting salary if you have a tech background.

you're either lying or retarded. even outside of programming, the only scientists/technologists making low wages are in biotech, because it's relatively hard to start a biotech company so it's more limited. there's no competent chemical engineering grad in the country who gets exploited in a position where he's actually developing product. if he was, he could start his own company and do 10x better than the assholes who have bad work conditions. or in many cases, someone will see that there are competent engineers and invest in them.
>>
>>38958908
>friends I have
Stopped reading right here. Your anecdotal evidence can't undo national surveys or the studies done by universities. Unless you can show that they're lying or their methods are bad (and honestly salary after 3 years of experience is really not that dishonest) you have no ground to stand on.
>>
>>38958973
>mid-career
>entry level salary
no. even if you get a level 1 position at 27 because you're human garbage, you'll get paid at the upper end of the proposed range. but you can literally look up the average salaries yourself, each level is 50-100% higher wage. it's harder to keep a job than it is to find one, because often companies will update how much they offer new employees but raises or bonuses aren't moved much. between 22 and 35 you should be switching positions or companies every 1-2 years.

>can't
poor people have the easiest time getting an education. from everyone i've talked to who does assistance programs or works to reform education in the US, poor kids either don't know they can get help, or they are just honestly uninterested. the money is there for them already. you're only truly fucked if your parents make just a little more money than 200% or whatever it is of the poverty line.

but even in that case, good students are rewarded insanely. i'd go apprentice somewhere myself, but it's viable to do community college or sit in on classes for free.

I studied math in college and got a scholarship for it. No student debt now.
I went to a private christian school that would have cost $40k per year.

My sophomore roommate was a retard who decided to rack up $70k in debt for his Youth Ministry degree. Seriously, he wanted to be a pastor for middle school students and he can't make much more than $30k a year if he is really lucky. He always joked that he would become a missionary in uganda to escape the debt, but I could never tell if he was really joking or not.

You mean chinks and pajeet? Get a job for any major tech company (doesn't have to be degree level, they have plenty of unskilled openings), they perform about half as well as white employees and will often make up cultural holidays because they don't want to come into work, and if a supervisor so much as googles the "holiday's" name, they scream racism until they get a new supervisor who won't touch them. Then they take even more time off and become less productive than before.

They are awful employees who cheat back home to get a plethora of degrees and get jobs here where it is painfully obvious they didn't really study that hard or ever practically apply their studies.

Why not just pick up a trade and run with that until you feel the desire to pursue higher goals. You earn money so you can directly fund your education so that it's a net investment rather than a debt and if said university degree doesn't work out you can always fall back on your previous work experience, again without debt.
