Why do guys get shit for wearing pic related?

I live in Chicago and in the winter pretty much anyone who wears a suit to work will have some kind of overcoat like this.

People get shit on for wearing this kind of coat as an accessory alongside their fedora, because they think it looks like a trench coat and makes them look like some kind of super secret anon detective.

IMO it's pretty great having a suburban vibe but still being close enough to be able to catch the CTA to the loop, but I imagine a lot of "true" Chicagoans would disagree.

If you wear a right sized one it looks good, but just like with fedora (trilby) they don't know how to wear them right and their unkempt faces clash with the clean look
You can't fix looking like a hobo with good clothes, shave your face or at least trim it, fix acne with lotions etc and pick that unibrow with pincers
Also might be too formal for the city you're living in, if you can pull the look off with a right sized jacket go for it bud
