I got boxes and boxes of stuff from my mom and it's bizarre to me the amount of shit she's kept over the years. Much of it is sentimental like letters but then there's like copies of my elementary school's code of conduct (multiple copies). I wouldn't keep that shit for five minutes if I had a kid and she kept it for literally decades. It made me kind of sad but I got rid of probably 70-80% of it because it had no meaning to me. I sure as fuck didn't tell my mom though.

In my country, people used to have a room in their house that nobody actually used. Expensive furniture, the best you could afford/inherited, display cases, pianos and so on, but no one went into the rooms except to clean them and maybe to celebrate some holidays or if you were visited by someone prominent. People could live in a small apartment and with many children yet a room was still unused for 99% of the year. It's kind of sad really.

I think you're right, I value family and even a small amount of friends about 10 times more after going through serious anxiety and self hatred over the past 6 months. I would have killed myself long ago if I didn't have my parents and brothers.

Yeah I was actually going to join up in the marines like pop and both grandparents did, but I ended up with the diabetes and it fucked everything up. I function much better when I have a routine and someone yelling at me telling me what to do and then do it twice as well next time. It was my last shot and it's gone. Oh well, at least I can grab some old military gear from the folks around this place. I grabbed a mortar shell box from the neighbor's garage before his house got torn down. Put a bunch of my survival shit in it. Nice heavy duty all purpose case right there.
