It's 99% because it drags them down too. Being around someone who's depressed is depressing. Talking to them is a bummer. They would much rather be around someone who's happy and bubbly and full of energy, smiling and making jokes and brightening up their day. It's a very selfish way of viewing others, not really caring about them and how they feel, but about how their presence and attitude affects you.

Very similar to the way that they hate loners in the workplace. To them it's not enough for you to come in and do your job and not bother anybody. They want someone talkative that they can chat with to pass the time, so that going to work is more like hanging out with friends. If you aren't going to be their friend and talk to them it makes their workday harder, and they resent you for it.
