This is Venezuela. Don't go to Venezuela.
>>38890479
Why would I go to venezuela, anon? That's silly.
>>38890504
You are correct. That would be ill-advised.
>>38890479
I haven't left my state in 4 years and I don't even have a passport, why would I go to that shithole
>>38890479

>>38890479
Hey fellow Ausbro.
>>38890686
Nice knowing ya. You will not be missed.
>>38890677
OK, thanks. I won't be going to venezuela then
>>38890649
when 90+% of your country's income comes from oil, and you have a centrally planned undemocratic government, shit can go bad real fast when the price of oil halves in the space of one year.
>>38890649
>Why did it become so horrible?
Because the vast majority of their income comes from oil, oil prices have become lower and lower over the years, and the government is grossly incompetent and spent their revenue on retarded shit
>>38890649
>socialism has worked in other countries
You fucking retard.
>>38890649
Pure bait. Just because Scandinavia can afford to burn billions via oil money didn't mean "socialism is working".
>>38891063
Socialism does actually work bu only on very VERY small scales. Like a bunch of us from this thread were to go make a little town, socialism would be far better than capitalism for out choice of civics.
>>38890479
Wasn't Venezuela supposed to be an island?
>>38890649
>>38890649
>it wasn't just socialism because socialism has worked in other countries
I completely agree, anon.
>>38891106
So could Venezuela. Problem is an authoritarian government which was completely uninterested in diversifying the economy beyond oil, and by the time oil prices plummeted the norms of democracy had become so eroded that there was no ability to change anything in the government
>>38890479
But it has some of the most beautiful women in the world.
>yfw they'd still rather starve to death than have anything to do with you

The only industry they had was oil. When oil prices were high they fuelled ALL of their oil profits into social programs and didn't diversify their economy at all.
Then when oil prices fell they had nothing else to prop up their system and the whole thing has completely collapsed. Combine that with a healthy dash of authoritarian marxism and you have the recipe for another failed south american state.
>socialism
>socialism can work
Yeah maybe in butt fuck nowhere in Africa where they cut off eachother's heads.
Your first world country is by that.
Stop pretending like it can work, tard.
>>38890649
Partly it was because they had a strongly anti-business version of socialism.
But mainly it was because they maintained a fixed exchange rate between the Bolivar and the US dollar.
And they kept it fixed when the price of their main export (oil) crashed.
And they kept it officially fixed when they ran out of hard currency, even though most people knew it wasn't worth anywhere near its official value.
If they'd floated it, the problem would never have arisen. If they'd even just had the sense to officially devalue it then they would have had some ability to trade their way out of trouble. But their total failure to react has completely wrecked their economy.

>t. brainwashed retard
>>38893221
How the fuck does socialism work in a large fucking area then Mr. Enlightened?
>>38893286
The key to preventing the overthrow of free nations is to attack the conditions of "misery and want" that nurture totalitarianism. It does not need to be done by the government, but someone has to do it.
