Because believing in god is believing in something that there is no evidence of. Not just evidence that I can personally verify, but virtually no one outside of religious circles says there is any evidence of it either. And those who do say there's evidence their evidence is never convincing and is often debunked by others, who at least to my layman ears sound a lot more convincing.

When it comes to climate change, it's different than having faith in a higher power, though admittedly it is still a version of faith, but it's faith in something that is real and tangible. People. I think it's fair to have a greater faith that of all the people researching and promoting climate change science if it really was bogus, don't you think the truth would filter out somehow? I'd say most people do genuinely want to do the right thing (because it's biologically programed into us as a species) and so it doesn't seem to be a hard sell to believe that with millions of people on the case the true answer will be the one that filters to the top. And that is that climate change is real.
>>
>>38872959
You dolt.

Climate change isn't based on predicting if it's going to rain 40 years from now. It's about analyzing the changes in the general climate over the past thousands of years using concrete evidence and looking at where that course is going to take us in the future.

IF the climate was stable for 10000 years, and in 100 years suddenly the average temperature increases by a few degrees, do you think that should be considered normal par for the course? No. And after looking at the evidence it's abundantly clear that there are way more pollutants in the air than there ever has been before. "Gee" you might ask, "how could that be? What has changed in the last 100 years from the millions of years before??" Oh it might just be caused by all the fuel we burn and carbon dioxide we dump into the atmosphere.

It's really not hard to understand. Please educate yourself.

Howabout this, why don't you read the article from Nasa and then also read articles from sources you trust. Compare contrast and you'll be better for it.

IF you only pick resources from one side of an argument you'll never see the bigger picture.

>>
>>38872959
It's really difficult to predict short term noise (i.e. weather). It's quite not as difficult to predict long-term trends (i.e. climate).

For an example, consider the gas milage of your car. On any given day it's hard to predict the exact number (maybe it's 26, maybe it's 22, who knows) but if you put a giant sail on your car you can be pretty sure that the average will go down due to drag. Based on your logic you would say "wow, you can't even predict the day-to-day milage, how can you predict that the sail will do anything?"

Now, admittedly, the exact numerical value of that uptick is still hard to predict. I'm not really a fan of when people say stuff like "the sea is going to rise X feet" because then when the sea rises X-1 feet everyone will say the prediction was wrong and ignore the overall trend.

It pains me to see environmentalism turn into a such a meme.
Notice that when "alternative energy" gets pushed, it's always shit like solar cells or wind turbines that aren't in any way suited to the energy needs of a modern city.
It's all a scam to create a scarcity of energy so that power companies can raise the price of electricity and let it fluctuate just like the price of gasoline and diesel. Imagine the shock that solar panel memers will feel when it costs just as much to charge their electric car as it did to fill the tank on their old car.
Meanwhile, energy sources that are actually good like hydro power and nuclear fall to the wayside because muh Chernobyl.
Carbon taxes are another meme that turned environmentalism into the joke it is today. Textbook example of wanting to have your cake and eat it too. The average person still wants tonnes of manufactured bullshit like a new phone every year, but they don't want manufacturers to pollute the landscape. The solution to this? Move all the factories to third world countries so we can pollute their environment instead of our own. Such compassion!

The first TIME cover under "Global Cooling", if you read the part of the article provided, it is about the oil crisis of that time period. The graph the guy on the cover is holding is a graph of oil prices.

http://content.time.com/time/subscriber/article/0,33009,918620-1,00.html
(Can be read by non-subscribers for some reason.)
The second TIME cover under "Global Cooling" actually contradicts the idea that it was "global", seeing as it mentions that the temperature in Anchorage, Alaska was in fact warmer than usual (more reason to call it climate change instead of global warming). This edition covers one particular continental American winter, and makes no reference to "global cooling" or a "new ice age".

http://science.time.com/2013/06/06/sorry-a-time-magazine-cover-did-not-predict-a-coming-ice-age/
The third TIME cover under "Global Cooling" in that image is an edit of one from 2007 warning about global warming.

http://content.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,947122,00.html
As for this last edition, I wasn't able to find the full thing, but I did find more of the first page than the link above shows archived on a post on "Prison Planet Forum", which I've attached in pic related. It looks like another article like that of the first and second.

Well I guess I fell for it when I read the research that shows carbon in the atmosphere traps heat and that we were emitting a shitton of carbon. Coincidentally the temperate readings were going up too.

I can understand people being skeptical of various proposed solutions to combat global warming; carbon credits/emissions trading sounds like trivatising the sky, carbon taxing looks like a government money grab. I can understand people rejecting some of the apocalyptic alarmism. Humanity will carry on through rising sea levels.

But to deny that it's happening at all is the delusion of brainlets. Dickheads who arrogantly believe they're smarter than scientists who've studied the topic their whole life.

>and of course it's only western countries who have to do it

2. Western nations are the only ones who can afford it.

There is little to no doubt that greenhouse gases in the atmosphere can raise the temperature of a planet.

The unknowns are "how much change in CO2 levels is required" and "on what time frame will changes occur?" and "will there be regional variability in the effects?"

All three of these questions have to be answered before anyone can even attempt to make a reasonable cost/benefit analysis of any proposed solution.

I can be described as a global warming skeptic not because I think that CO2 has nothing to do with the temperature of Venus, but because I think that climatologists have institutionally made the *political* judgment to pretend to have much better answers to my three questions than they actually have - and that they've done this in order to lay the policy groundwork for a whole raft of changes that environmentalists just happen to want for reasons not related to global warming.

You can't answer any of those three questions until your models work and can be proven to be predictive. All of the models offered to date have failed longitudinally. It's that simple, really.

Not only that, but as additional time has passed many of the temperature proxies being used to fill holes in the model data are being exposed as flawed or wrong. The tree ring data offered on every stupid Discovery Network show as a good proxy for temperature? It turns out it's not. That doesn't stop "scientists who've studied the topic their whole life" from leaving that proxy in their models, though.

It's the liberals' religion. They have their original sin in the form of being born a white male; they have their heretics in the form of 'xenophobes'; they have their faith-based mythologies about equality; and they have their Armageddon in the form of Climate Change. There is no arguing with an intolerant religion--the adherents will only get angrier and angrier the more their inconsistencies are questioned. You're just supposed to have faith in our new clergy and the fabled 97%, even though we don't know who they are.

I mean, since when has a scientist ever been wrong? Just learn to love the fact that your government will take your money and give it to poor countries in the name of cap and trade.
