Sorry lads, don't know why I avoided posting it. I wanna be a college teacher who teaches Film Studies. Banter aside, I did it for my degree, and it was probably the only time in my life that I've ever been happy. I fucking love film, and I was really inspired by my college tutors and I wanna put that across to another generation.

I went to do a PGCE after my degree, but I had to drop out at the last stretch because of depression/the fact I have Tourettes. I took a certain medication for Tourettes, but there was a nationwide shortage when they just stopped producing the drug, and there was no alternative at the time.

Combine that with the mass stress from the job, and I had to drop out and move home. I fucking loved being in a classroom though, and I've stayed in a classroom now by being a Teaching Assistant at a local primary school. I love being in classes, and seeing people progress.

But like I said, my main dream is to teach Film at a college, but I don't know what they expect from you. I have a 2:1 from University, but I don't know if they require an MA or a teaching degree, it's pretty unclear.

I know lots of teachers that didn't have much in the ways of teaching qualifications, but I came from a poor and shitty schooling background - If you've a degree in Film its more than likely a good start + you've been getting Teaching experience via TA.

Thanks for the encouragement lads, I really appreciate it. Like I said, I was training to be a primary school teacher, but I just went in at a bad time. Depression/Stress got so bad I just couldn't face going back in. I had to move across the country to go back home.

But I've been working in and around schools since I was 18. I volunteered at a school for 3 years as a classroom helper, then I went do to my PGCE and had to leave. After that I volunteered at a local school for a year, and now I work at a local school as a teaching assistant.

I fucking love being in education, but what I do doesn't pay enough, plus, it's hard to find good hours. I'm gonna keep doing what I'm doing as a TA at the moment, and find out what I need to do to be a college tutor in the meantime.

It's just something I've wanted to do for years.

Don't put him down for it, it's what he enjoys and if he gets paid for it then power to him. There's plenty of kids who want to go down the media and film route too mind, we had quite a few at my school and they had contacts who would come in and really give opportunities to kids interested.

Yeah but, the student learning film studies isn't contributing. They're just staying in school doing a "fun" subject to delay the responsibility of getting a job, etc.

They can't very well go and work at the film studies factory or get a job at the film studies mill. The knowledge they learn is completely inapplicable, I'd say much less than 1% of students who take that subject end up using that knowledge at all. It's just an excuse to watch films at school and call it work.
