8 year gap in resume, kys.

Did you do anything of note during those two years?
In my experience what you do outside of work can be just as significant, if not moreso, than what you did during

I was asked about that in an interview, thankfully I blamed college for it. I told them I wanted to focus on school more and take extra classes.

In reality I got laid off and couldn't find a job. Gave me more time to relax after school tbqh

>2 month gap
This nightmare ends eventually, right bros?

I've been applying for jobs for seven full months now. The first five can be explained by my spring semester of school, but now I've graduated and oh fuck.

Not getting a job by the time I graduated was like getting dragged to the bottom of the ocean, and the past two months have been me getting the shit kicked out of me at the bottom of the ocean.

The worst part is is the more times you try and fail, the less you try and so on. And it also doesn't help that fucking everyone in who does the HR screening calls is a fucking roastie cunt who rejects you if you're a little bit awkward (it's crazy how many parallels there are to dating as there is to job hunting). Now I'm applying for part time internships.

I'm pretty sure the job hunt is going to wrap up in a week or so but every time I've thought that I get three rejections (after in person interviews where I wear a suit and shit) in the same day.

A not insignificant part of me fears that I'll wind up like this guy and use my expensive degree to become a ditch digger

I quit a job I didn't like and it took me 8 months to get another one. Somehow it was actually the best one of all that I applied for, which is nice. But even after a year at the new job I'm still building back up the savings I ate through over those months. I'm not going to quit again without an offer in hand.
>>
Look for places that closed so they can't confirm you worked there.

Or find someone you know who owns a company and claim you worked under the table, and get them to verify your story.

Lie lie lie. It's all bullshit anyway and they'll never check. If you're valuable once they hire you they won't care anyway.
>>

Look if you've somehow survived 34 years without a job you don't need one.
>>
>>38854650
Yeah, that's generally best practice. It's infinitely easier to get a job if you already have one, and it might wind up being that it's a club that I'm not invited to. I hate being forced to do this.

How do you get jobs cutting grass and shit? All I can find is retail positions where you have to destroy your soul and make sales. Thats if you get the job because you first have to go through the gauntlet of psychoanalytic tests.

I just wish things were simple. For pretty much the entirety of human history except the last few decades or so all entry level jobs were just 'I can do this for you if you pay me' and that was it and now I have to dance like a monkey for a slim chance of being selected from 1000 people sucking up to an employer to get a job cleaning toilets.

I actually dig ditches, no joke. I'd go as far as to say it's therapeutic. I work for a small electrical company (I'm an electrician) that's too cheap to hire "laborers", aka Mexicans who dig trenches and run PVC underground to run cabling and power through. Lo and behold, me being 23, I get stuck digging and running the PVC about once a week. I actually don't mind, I've gotten incredibly fast at it. they give me a full day to dig, and I usually finish by lunch. Then I just find shade and fuck off on 4chan until my shift is over

What sucks is that even if you have experience, if it's shit jobs like retail or fast food, it doesn't really count. In fact, it counts against you, sort of like negative experience. If you worked 3 years at Walmart, it's the equivalent of taking 3 years off of work completely. The logic being that if you stayed in a shit job, you're stupid and shouldn't be hired.

Okay but how many jobs should I put on my resume?

Also I need help writing a summary. I'm applying to a lot of jobs so I have to make it general and not specific.
>>
>>38858686
When/where they were founded
What their primary source of business is and some of their other business ventures.

Usually one of the first questions are:
How'd you hear about us
Why do you want to work for us

Everytime they ask you a question you should have a short (2-4 minute) but very descriptive story. They will usually ask you to expand on the "strengths" you put on your resume.

Stories should be in this format: task, what you did, and what the result was.

Also, write down and memorize 5 questions you have for them because when they ask "Do you have any questions for us?" and you say "No" it makes you sound like you don't care.

Easy questions are:
- What training for the job is
- What's the job culture like
- What are opportunities for growth
etc

>I'm applying to a lot of jobs so I have to make it general and not specific.

Again, tailor make your resume to the job. It will take all of a few seconds to change a few words or sentences before sending it off. Generic resumes get tossed.

For work experience, put everything and under every work entry, have bullet points saying what your duties at the job were and what you accomplished, but keep it short so you can expand on it when asked.

Told this to another anon. It's simple stuff, really:
Dress business casual. Shave, get a professional haircut.
Talk about customer service skills. (if you don't know what constitutes a customer service skill: https://www.helpscout.net/blog/customer-service-skills)
Speak clearly.
Before you go in, prepare some questions about the company, because in my own experience, at some point, they'll say "do you have any questions for me?"
They will definitely say "tell me about yourself." Have something prepared for this. Something that makes you sound capable.
That first handshake communicates SO MUCH. But it has to be firm, Champ. FIRM. Just like I showed you. I didn't raise a quitter.

My brother got me a part time office job. Thursday and Friday, leaving out everything else to fit into my college schedule. Perfect schedule.
My brother hated this job. He did not go to college so he did more time than I did.
On more than one occasion he'd try to convince me to leave with him. Just walk out and never go back.
One day at the end of the month when pay came through me an my brother noticed that our wages had been messed with.
I don't know how much my brother was left with but at the end of the month I was only left with 40 GBP.
My brother naturally used this as an excuse to just walk out and he dragged me with him. Went as far as to telling my mum that I cried, which I never did. I just wanted to speak to my superiors about this.
One year later and I have never had another job since.

Nah, I have sort of given up. Didn't like school. Barely got through high school and couldn't put up with college's useless bullshit, reading shitty novels that had nothing to do with what I wanted to be. I like straightforward jobs, I don't need that bullshit.

I was in the military awhile, they handed me a gun and showed me how to use it. Most of my jobs were the same. For janitor, they gave me a putty scraper, for truck driver, they gave me some keys. They didn't waste my time charging me thousands of dollars for useless information. And as I get older, I doubt I will go back, I will probably just keep moving from town to town, alone, picking up work here and there. I have a whole laundry list of random certificates and qualifications that makes job hunting easy.

That's my advice to you losers. I know you guys lie about how you always improve yourselves sitting at home doing nothing, but if you really spend some time doing that, you can rack up a bunch of random shit. Doesn't even matter if you see a purpose for it. Tons of times jobs have popped up for me and because I had randomly spent a weekend at some boat workshop, I had the license they wanted. Most of this shit is easy. Public notaries can get qualified so easily, and the liquor store course is online and you can cheat on the test and pass it in a snap, not that you should need to, but I didn't want to read the manual so I cheated. Fucking easy anyway, don't sell alcohol to undercover cops. whoopty doo

Fill long gaps in your resume with businesses you've "worked" for that have closed or became bankrupt or shut down, or one's where the owner is recently deceased. Look at closed restaurants. Say you worked there. Give a real name but a fake tele and address. Say they left the country or on holiday. You people are on this site and have creative minds- use them. Newspapers post closed businesses all the time. Guess what, the owners tend to disappear themselves and wont be available for a reference.

>Guess what, the owners tend to disappear themselves and wont be available for a reference.

This is a good thing.

Many employers will not even bother to call or check your references or info on a resume. Those employers who do will waste one phone call to check. Use a phone number on a shut down biz. It will ring and ring, no one will pick up. Employer will move on and call you in for an interview anyway.

Unless you are applying for a hi level government job, you are insane to not utilize this tried and true method.

It's that easy dude. Use technology to your advantage to lie to retards who never background check. Put a bankrupt companies number on your resume and basically fake it. Don't get too overboard, it has to be believable. You don't learn this in school kids. Only learn this when you're so hungry you'll suck a dick for a medium fry from McDonald's.

Most of the legit stuff are on casting sites like Casting Networks, Backstage, Central Casting, Actors Access, and Mandy. I use the first two mainly because I'm also trying to move my way up, but you really don't need much to start up. For a resume, if you haven't done any theatre/film or tech work in high school or college, I would look for a reputable acting class that doesn't charge you extra for shit like "submitting your headshot to our big time agent friends".

Literally doesn't matter if you can't fill out every single box. They just want someone as soon as possible. Show up to the place in person and express interest. As long as you don't look like a drug addict there's a 50% chance they say "you're hired, now just fill out the application so we have your info" right on the spot. Don't be spergy and email the application, or sneak it into the mailbox without talking to anyone.

If the manager is literally going to lie for a reference then you're air-tight. All they can do is ask your manager "Hey, how often does he work/how long has he worked there for" and they have to take your managers word as absolute. They can't (and won't) demand your work logs, and unless it's an insanely serious job they're not going to ask for your paystubs/etc either.

Even if I don't have a big gap in my resume I'm not confident that I can land a decent job if I quit now due to my overall ineptness.

>fresh off the boat third world immigrants
this doesn't sound as bad since they would probably know little english and maybe want to earn their wages working while also keeping to themselves.

you sound like you have some experience working these sort of warehouse jobs? I looked online and I guess 50 lbs. seems similar to about a large sack of potatoes or a big bag of dog food.

am pretty smol boi <5'7 and below average (healthy) muscles... wonder if im cut out to work at a place like this
>>
>>38869942
probably never. i tried to get this idea going a few years back, at the height of the great recession but no one wanted to do shit. fortunately though, i got a job.
>>
>>38869859
No way it could be worse than McDonalds

Cleaning up feces off the wall, making food, talking to the public, kicking junkies out of the bathroom

Seems like at a warehouse you can just lift stuff up and down and be with your own thoughts
>>
>>38870080
I mean the major issue is location. Even if we had a robust /r9k/ job search, it's incredibly unlikely I'd find someone who could get me a job in my city. The same goes for a lot of people- unless you live in a big city, /r9k/ probably can't help you find a job.
>>
>>38870090
Pick your poison. I only read stories but it's the intense physical labor under shit conditions. No they won't turn on the AC for you or let you tap out for 5 unless it's to quit. Bottom end immigrant workers have no choice unlike financially secure permanent citizens so they get run ragged.
>>
>>38870122
at that time i had zero references and i just wanted some robots to vouch for me. but i figured that i could just take shit temp jobs, do a very good job, and use the temp agency as references.

it IS bad, you get a few from the same country and they will babble loudly in their own language, start slacking more, try to get you to do the hardest work around, and most don't wear deodorant. Have fun being in a metal tube with 3 pakis who smell like curry and shit.

>>38870090
I think McD's is air-conditioned at least? Try doing heavy lifting for 8 hours in 30C weather. At least 3 of the non-temps (union guys) working there longer for 5 years talked about their hernias openly.

They don't let you go on your phone, a boss can send you home right then and there if they catch you on your phone for 2 seconds. Your agency might not pay for that day, never call you back, stop dealing with you, and cut contact - good luck getting your pay for that half-day or filing a labor suit or complaint.

I saw a guy get sent home on the spot for daring to sit down on a skid for 10 minutes while there was no work (boxes were not coming down the conveyor in his lane). Another guy pissed off the full-timer he was working with by talking too much, came in the next day, got sent to the office and was never seen again.

the only thing these jobs are good for is drinking money, introducing to you the reality, and lighting a fire under your ass unless you're too far gone beyond that point in terms of age or depression.
>>
just use a temp agency to do all the heavy lifting that is job searching. i regularly get email notifications for office and manual labor jobs.
>>
>>38870156
Yeah it's shit, I worked for all of one shift at Ferrero Rocher (don't work there) and it was full of pakis/assorted brownskins and it was a fucking awful job.
>>
>>38870232
>the only thing these jobs are good for is drinking money, introducing to you the reality, and lighting a fire under your ass unless you're too far gone beyond that point in terms of age or depression.
yeah, its great motivation to keep yourself in school and apply yourself

That sounds horrible

Most of the tech companies I've interviewed at give employees free soda and comfy chairs and couches to sit on.

Don't these bosses know that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar?
>>
>>38859487
These are the fucking worst. I had one and i hated having to listen to all the Chads and roasties spout their customer service experience at mccuckolds for a tech job when I was one of the few with actual tech experience in the fucking room!

Guess who didn't get the job? companies that do group interviews deserve to go bankrupt. I was fortunate enough to get a job after a Skype interview.

No bullshit, asked me tech knowledge questions and was hired on the spot. Took half an hour instead of three to get bullshit answers from every fag in the group.
Group interviews are an automatic red flag!
>>
>>38868826
>job is to cold call normies
this is my nightmare
>>
>>38870418

The worst is they never tell you it's a group interview, and it doesn't seem like something that's polite to ask. It's basically a dick move right from the start.
>>
>>38870376
You are a cog in the machine. You move box from A to B. You do this five hundred times over 12 hours. Giving you a stool to rest on and drinks is not going to make you a more productive slave- and besides, if you don't do the job well enough they'll find someone else who does.
>>
>>38870277
So long as you don't get burned out in the process. I was feeling the same way for years, but I was only making gradual progress every few weeks because I was going back and forth my two shit jobs. It wasn't until I was actually fired from one of them that I actually got my shit together (my other boss fled the country right after that so technically I lost both at the same time). I managed to get contract work near me that's related to my field while also doing a lot of independent filming and recording in my free time, along with cleaning my place and getting medicated again. Whatever motivates you to do better is good, but remember to take care of yourself because I certainly wasn't when I was pushing 60+ hour work weeks.

as bad as you say it is, i'm still going to think it over about applying since i could really use the money

>computer recently having troubles and broken cpu fan
>temporary replacement pc freezing frequently so might need hardware replacements
>no transportation so save for bike maybe
>need clothes and new desktop/room furnishing

its either get this job and work long enough to buy all that I need and have some handy savings (5K+)

I would want to earn about 10k+ before quitting but I'm realizing this is ~7.5 months of work.

I wonder if I'll still be able to attempt to sign up for neetbux after working here (undiagnosed but showings progressive signs since 7th grade)

I think if you're just working part time or only making a certain amount, you might still be eligible. I mean, if the warehouse is paying you straight cash at such a low amount, you could even get away with not saying you have a job.
>>
>>38870619
They don't tell you because they know even normies hate group interview. But they know that they can get away with it because we are all desperate to be wagies.

one would have reason to doubt, since they are formal enough to have full applications be filled and emailed (which by the way is the preferred method of receiving the applications as mentioned on the ad) so it might come up with legal work related info. when going for SSI in the possible future.

weighing the worth of gaining the necessities and handy cash against no money, possibly no computer since on occasion i can get it to turn on, and no transportation.

if this ad is still up by the end of the week or two by now, i might take it up.

in fairness, its a decent sounding job. rather than taking something like fast food, its a working in the warehouse industry for shipping and handling of pipes and specialty metals. so sounds kinda manly and a little "responsible" in a way
>>
>>38871538
I would just apply for it now. This is for the short term anyway so the faster you get work, the faster you can save and do what you need to do.

Does it have one to provide? I mean, for Craigslist jobs, I usually just send them an email with my resume saying I'm interested and I'll usually get a reply back with 48 hours. From there, just follow what the paperwork says.

lost my job a few months ago, finally started getting on-site interviews at companies. got ass-blasted yesterday when i interviewed for a front end developer position, not asked a single domain specific question, just algorithms and gotcha questions for 4 hours. feel like utter shit, I really wanted that job too, might have been able to become a cyborg again. thinking about killing myself honestly, going to be unemployed forever.

never had this much trouble finding a job before, not even when i was fresh out of uni, now i can barely get interviews, 5 years experience means nothing. soon my fellow robots, i might be free of this hell. hopefully there is a beautiful isekai waiting for me.

I know it's only been 2 months. I'll get something eventually, I've got to. Failure isn't an option. I just fucking hate how ZERO fucking companies these days are willing to train anybody, so everyone is forced to lie about their credentials and then fake it 'til they make it once on-the-job, or just know somebody who is already within the company. That's what I literally had to do just for an awful level 1 tech support job, and then a field technician job. And I kick these jobs' asses - I do fantastic work, my bosses even compliment me on it, and yet I didn't have half of the qualifications they were asking for when I applied, and blatantly lied to their faces to get in.

Fucking HR departments and hiring managers are clowns that expect burger flippers to be artisan chefs. They can get away with it too, because there just isn't enough work to go around. It enrages me to think about.
