FACT: 2010 - 2013 was the best time to be on 4chan.
>>38812628
No, as someone who has been here since 2004, basically for the whole ride, 2006-2008 was the best time by far. There was still some people having genuine fun instead of every single post either being a child poster or ""ironic"""
>>38812649
This.
2004 - 2006 = salad days
2007 - 2009 = the golden age
2010 - 2012 = fall from grace
2013 - present = worst period of internet culture, internet is actually dying, its become so intermixed with reality that it's becoming more difficult to discern where the internet ends and real life begins. you go back to earlier times and there was a definitive separation between "offline" and "online" and this resulted in the funniest shit happening when people treated the internet like a separate world and not like a mediocre and boring extension of real life.
>>38812628
I can't say that was the best, but I can guarantee this is the worst.
>>38812744
>>38812810
Post-2013 4chan is a fucking dumpsterfire. There's always been periods of influx from newfags but I feel like in recent years those newfags have been mostly gen z'rs who came here because of edgy memes facebook and because of politics. Did you guys know /pol/ has surpassed /b/ in traffic? It's the new gateway, and in turn creates butthurt seriousfags instead of chaotic blank slates. This site is truly dead.
>>38812649
>or ""ironic"""
ironic shitposting was a mistake. it was used to make fun of people being fools, but then it became a form of damage controlling. and it's also a form of "humor".
>>38812744
Oh man i miss the days when the internet was about getting GETS and and over 9000 and everyone was trying to find the final boss of the internet
Now its like everyone takes themselves too seriously but then ironic is shitty too i dont get it man my brain is dying from all the heroin as i get older
>>38813137
"the internet is serious business"
you don't hear this anymore
>>38813204
Nobody ever calls it "the internets" anymore.
You rarely even hear the world "internet" anymore holyshit because EVERYONE is assumed to be online. The jnternet has finally merged with rl due to the ibflux of social media
Lain wasn't kidding. I cant believe this is actually happening.
>>38812880
/Pol/ has more traffic than all other boards combined.
>>38812880
>come to 4chan for the first time in 2013
>come to /pol/
>still a small board
>witness various happenings (srs vs /pol/, zimmerman, ebola, tumblr raid, ben garrison, officer willson)
>witness birth of a few memes (iron pill, ebola-chan, xpol/polgbt, GTKRWN, TILNWWBJ)
>then comes gamergate
>then moot trashes it
>then trump ('nuff said)
>/pol/ is now the current shitfest it is
>realize /pol/ is probably like a lesser history of /b/
>why did I ever come here?
>>38812744
2014 and beyond was the shit. Thats when all the lefty nu-males found out about the "white supremacist" 4chan and started writing articles and reporting us to the LDA.
>>38812628
>mfw party poster switched from /tv/ to /r9k/ to start taking over
YA THATS THE FOOD THAT IM REPPIN GONNA RIDE TO THE TOP NO LEDDED OR ZEPPELIN
>>38813371
I don't believe that. There's no way.
>>38813402
It's true, I saw a pic and I can't remember where and it showed this. I mean is it that hard to believe? 8 chan shows current users and their pol is always 2000+ more users than the next closets one.
>>38813399
It's "crew"m you mongoloid.
>I mean is it that hard to believe?
Next to /a/ /v/ and /b/ combined? It kind of is.
>>38813436
Oh my fucking god I can't even fathom how dead 4chan is. This is nu-chan. It's all gen z, facebook migrants and stormfags who take everything seriously, or a combination of the three. Why do I still come here? It's just painful.
/v/ can't even talk about a world war 2 video game now without it immediately becoming a shitfest of trumposting.
>>38813515
Maybe the left shouldn't have hijacked every aspect of society and fucked it up? Ever thought it as people #resisting the Social Justice movement?
>>38812744
>tfw started browing and posting on this site during the final golden age years.
Better late than never.
>>38813542
Aaaaand they're here.
>Hey, wanna play a board game?
>Nah, if we're gonna hang out we have to talk about why I think the holocaust was faked
>That's retarded.
>Maybe the left shouldn't have hijacked every aspect of society and fucked it up? Ever thought it as people #resisting the Social Justice movement?
>>38813571
fuck that misspellalthough in the case of boards like this one maybe it was better for me that i never found this site
yep, but election night was fucking insane

yeah yeah we get it. My point stands, all this is just pushback.

>>38813204
Oh man this was a hilarious notion back then but now people unironically take the internet seriously now. Everyone is more focused on being a pseudo intellectual instead of having fun and being relaxed. Shitposting on Jewtube around 2007-2008 was good times.
tfw came to 4chan during the cancer period (2010-2012) but thankfully at least I'm not a post-Fappening tourist from Reddit
>>38814528
you better delete this before the newfags download and pretend like they've been here since 2009
Remember when the big newfag boogeyman was gaia? Seems rather quaint compared to reddit
It's a little sad to think of how much the internet has changed, but I wonder how much of that is just a part of growing old?
>tfw if /pol/ supported Rand instead, the traffic would've slowed down overtime
>tfw if Gamergate/the Fappening didn't happen, 4chan wouldn't have been in this situation in the first place
It wouldn't be good as older times but still

Sometimes, I too think about what could have been...
>>38815826
Hey, man, sorry.
>>38815846
>president Rand
No he said the traffic on /pol/ would have slowed down because Rand would have gotten BTFO.
I like to think I started going in the early months of '09...
but I can't find any screencaps, the earliest one was dated november of that year.
Tell me oldfags, does starting between 8th and 9th grade make me a fag? Am I valid?
>>38812628
tfw it's all been downhill since then with no chance of getting better.

Anons
Take this thread to heart.
Don't take the internet seriously.
Change starts with you.
Honestly, boards like this, soc, and some others ought to be purged. Or at least, talk about life and problems, sure, but be fun about it. Like this image.
Think before you post.
First things first: have fun. And take care of yourself.
>>38814493
Probably one of the better boards because they don't take shit so seriously like the rest of this festering corpse.
the best time day to be on 4chan was one day before you started browsing

>The cyclical shit machine of meta irony is what happened when people suddenly became too cool for literally everything. Using irony, you can put people down and shit on anything you want without ever having to commit to a real opinion that people can then disagree with.
>It's the holy grail for people that need to feel superior to absolutely everyone. Just kick the ironic detachment up another level when you're not the coolest kid anymore, no original thought required. That's why if we even live to see the end of this stupid fad it's going to get even worse before it gets better.
Rose tinted faggots are the worst. Gtfo.

4chan yes, it was already too late for /b/ in 2010
I've been here since 2010. Very regular on R9k and best period for me was 2011-2015. Elliot and Beta Uprising was he last great peak.
Personally i think the more people who post the better, because only a tiny minority of posters have interesting things to say, and obviously the more people the larger this group of smart people is.
This whole meta "old times were best" is about as faggy as those threads claiming 2003 was the peak of internet culture and apex of western civilisation and that women were loyal and children obeyed their elders.
The 'culture' of 4chan has always been cringey. The only thing I regret is that CP isn't as regularly posted on /b/ as earlier on, because CP is an indicator of the degree of confidence people have to speak and act freely in a non-violent manner.
>>38813643
total bollocks, if you actually believe the left has or has had any sort of power at all then you are really the one falling under some sort of delusion.

the problem is not only 4chan suffered from this fucking downfall
the internet was a rather nice place with genuinely funny shit and it feeling like an experience detached from reality. shit like the old youtube poop fads were amazing. now we have a boring internet infested by normalfaggotry, political divides and mundane cancer

man you're right
I remember back in 2004 everything was grouped into small, secluded communities which mostly didn't interact with each other, people knew each other to some extent in those small communities, but everybody was strictly separating what we used to call "rl" from your online persona, nobody took anything very seriously except for some butthurt newfags and there was not a whiff of this stupid circlejerking online pretension
nowadays all of that has turned into its opposite, most parts of the internet became some content-consuming shitfest and you're never in your own little place because you can get raided by some idiot from tumblr at any time, also doxxing
what happened
instead of adding boards to 4chan, they should remove like half of them and force us to actually talk to one another again
all of the specialized boards really killed the community, especially for /r9k/
