Do you feel like people are just drifting apart and becoming atomized?
Despite the hype surrounding technology and its supposed power to allow greater connection between individuals, the effects have shown to be the opposite. To supplement our relationships with the power of instantaneous messaging, visual applications, and the dopamine rush of internet connectivity has lead to the retardation of our ability to create emotional and physically satisfying relationships in real life.
This "connectedness" through technology sadly does not fulfill the needs of healthy relationships, and has allowed a sort of feed back loop. People such as "robots" on /r9k/ wish to interact with others, using this platform or other online venues, which can fulfill a human need to interact with others, while further isolating them from the physical world and real relationships. This is not to say that relationships online cannot be emotionally satisfying, but those are clearly the outliers.
We can see a theme in popular culture to hark back to a better time, the 80's for example, with television like Stranger Things, the synth pop films of Nicolas Winding Refn, and other television and film. Would you give up the technological advances in order to preserve healthy social bonds? I know my answer.

My favorite film maker is Brian De Palma. He had a string of 80s films that are amazing, with great soundtracks, the lead actresses are all stunningly beautiful, and his direction brings out their sensuality and sexuality.

I don't get this feeling at all anon, I feel like there are many healthy people, but this technological revolution has retarded maturation in the younger generation, especially millennials. All my relationships seem to be temporary, but that really is my fault as I just go from place to place, but I feel like a lot of people are like this, and its a growing phenomenon.

Does what I say in OP make sense? I think nostalgia can be healthy when it is appropriate, but when it is escapism, and it is used to milk people emotionally like porn it is disgusting. Either way the social bonds that connected people in America have deteriorated significantly, along with social change has left people looking back at a better time.

But what proofs do you have? I have the works of Putnam (bowling alone) to back my assertion up, immigration, diversity are all things adding to deterioration of social bonds.
