Words do not lose meaning, they in fact gain new meaning, even if the new meaning isn't like the original one. Case in point, your use of the word "edgy", the way you are using it doesn't literally refer to the property of an object to have geometric edges like bismuth crystals, instead you mean it as someone trying to be overly offense. Edgy still means that something has literal edges, but your new definition doesn't negate its original meaning.
